St. Peter Stiftskeller - das Restaurant - Salzburg
St. Peter Bezirk 1/4
5010 Salzburg
The 2 hours at the mozart dinner concert was unpleasant. We purchased the "exclusive concert" for two - upon entering the restaurant, we were laughed at by the young women standing there who told us not to break the door. Not a great start for what would be a 250 Euro experience (with two bottles of wine included). I asked her if it was normal to laugh at customers and asked to see her manager. After a few minutes of not being taken seriously, we were rudely shown to our tables by a waiter who barely stopped to look at us. After snapping again at us, he actually***rolled his eyes*** at us as we were not being able to understand his broken German (he, like the rest of the staff we encountered, was was an immigrant and not a native German speaker; so he spoke a difficult to understand German and an almost non-existent english) At this point, we decided to leave and again asked to speak with the manager to get a refund. We were again rudely ignored by the waiter who actually told us to sit down and be quiet. The room itself was nicely decorated, however one gets the feeling that this is done more to use as an advertisment for the website to lure in unsuspecting tourists than anything else. It is simply difficult to enjoy an atmosphere when you practically need to grab passing waiters simply to order overpriced below-average wine or remind him to serve very average food. The "steak" was a bit of a joke really, served in tiny portions with all of the pretentions of fine dining with the taste of a McDonald's steak burger. The soup watery and disgusting. The dessert was cheap and not very memorable. The very same wine we purchased was on sale in nearby hotels and resturants at 25% of the price we were charged. A tiny glass of water (normally provided free of charge with your wine or coffee in Austria) cost over 5 euros and wasn't even cold. The performers themselves (while most defintately local students and not professionals) seemed embarssed by the poor service (as they saw it going on right in front of them) and attempted to console us and others in the audience between their performances. They were the only bright spot on an otherwise terrible experience. As we left, I asked a final time for the name of the waiter and his manager, a man appeared who claimed to be the owner (but I am quite sure he was simply the night manager), after losing his temper and yelling at me, the waiter actually braced himself and shoved me with both arms with all his might (I am an offensive lineman and he is quite a small man, so it didn't do much good) but I was so shocked at his behavior, I turned and asked another few waiters, standing nearby, to confirm that they had seen what had just happened -- they immedately claimed that they saw nothing and refused to call the police in what was a case of simple assault. At this point, the only Austrian in the group defused the situation by asking me quite nicely to go out for a beer, and I later found out from him over a beer that almost the whole staff was Croatian and they were all looking out for each other, so I might as well forget about trying to file any charges or make any formal complaint. So, I realized that the only way that I was going to get anywhere was to explain this seemingly unbelievible experience was by sharing it with fellow travellers. I can say with confidence that in a city that has its share of tourist traps (getreidegasse shops) and gems (Augustiner Beer Garden) -- the Mozart Dinner Concert is the biggest of all the tourist traps... AVOID AVOID AVOID - go get some traditional fare at the Fageralm or some fine dining at the Hotel Schloss Moenchstein. As for the music, you can get a greater range and better quality at the puppet threater (for much less) or something much better for the same price at the Haus zur Mozart. Places like this give an otherwise wonderful city a bad name -- very sad indeed. (franklouiscarleii, 07-05-2012)

Very clean and cheap hostel. The breakfast is not the best, but you can't expect anything better for € 3,5. The showers and toilets are very clean. The hostel's bar is very affordable. I'd come back. (mAu, 22-04-2012)

Hotel Übergossene Alm - Dienten am Hochkönig
Sonnberg 23
5652 Dienten am Hochkönig
Great food - tolles Essen. Schöner Spa und Beauty-Bereich. Sauberkeit 1a. Schade. Arrived by 1700 small car park outside house, nice old house. Old black Lab dog greets us also nice lady greets and welcomes. Given key to room 11. small double room, looks comfortable television the smallest I have ever seen without being on my phone. .Had shower had to wait 12 minutes for warm water to come through. Bed comfortable super view from balcony. No soap but good towels. My wife and I are tall the toilet in this room we found to close to the wall, no room for the legs. Breakfast was very good eggs were very tasty since local farm. Supermarket you can see from this room and main door, 5 mins walk, Bad Vagaun spa 10 mins walk, for the price just a bit more than camping with breakfast out at cafe. if like me had a large van which can camp in or towing caravan for long way well camping works out more expensive now, so with small car your better off. Would recommend this place for one night or if hiking or out all day great place, and has swimming pool in summer out back. (christopherevans2, 29-03-2012)

TAUERN SPA Zell am See - Kaprun - Kaprun
Tauern Spa Platz 1
5710 Kaprun
Not really my style and far too expensive! On a cold and rainy day we followed the suggestion of a local shop assistant to relax in this spa in the public area – so we haven’t been in the private hotel wellness area or the additional sauna area which you have to pay extra if you want to. To PAY is the correct phrase here – entry for 3 hours on a weekend 19 Euros (without sauna area!!!) per person + if you are not having an eye on your watch it is getting more and more expensive because each additional half hour will be charged with 1,60 Euros upon departure. We left the building 33 minutes later (we were on holiday!) and paid 6,40 Euros for the extended stay – that’s correct for 2 adults and it is written on their homepage but for me that’s not a way I deal with my guests. The “not participating reaction” from the person at the checkout desk was symptomatically “I am sorry but this is a computer system and I can’t change it myself” – is ok and I am sure that we were not the only guests asking since the spa opened but it shows that there is a big company in the background with only one goal: making profit! Together with 2 coffees and 2 cakes from the self service restaurant you better bring 50 Euros with you for 3 – exactly stopped - hours. Wellness area itself: ok but nothing special. For me and my wife too less “special areas” like underwater massage jets, waterfalls (only 4 or maybe 6), too less whirlpool sofas and children everywhere. There is a special area for children with a slide but most of them are jumping around in the outdoor pools next to their parents and nobody cares. We only saw one pool attendant (and some cleaning stuff) but he never walked around – he was just sitting in his small office watching the monitors. Self service restaurant: the name is programme – only 2 persons where working there and it was overcrowded because of bad weather in the region and weekend (so the locals came too). The cakes and strudel looked like deep-frozen products but the taste and price was ok. Don’t use the smoking area! The ventilation is far too weak and the whole room is foggy. And don’t forget to bring your dishes back because when you leave it nobody else can sit down at the table. There is only one person at the cash desk and a cook – both do not have time to clean your table! All in all – far too expensive and too less stuff: to make profit is the aim. The management should have a look to some of the spas in Styria – they offer more comfort for lower prices. (blacktiger0007, 24-02-2012)

My wife and I just went there to have a coffee and a cake on the terrace – I think there is no better place to do that. The view over the lake and the surrounding mountains is amazing. (blacktiger0007, 24-02-2012)
