3 Points out of 5

Actually, I was afraid of going to a historic restaurant with a scenic view in a really touristic place. But: It was ok!

With some luck, we got a table for 8 on a sunday, just after church finished and it is really crowded on the top. The service was friendly, though sometimes lacking attention. The menu wasn’t as pricy as I thought. It wasn’t cheap either but from my opinion for such a place it was ok.

If you’re looking for the scenic view, you might get disappointed. If the sun shines too much into the room, they pull down big white shades – and the view is gone!

The food itself was good and we had no complaints in general. My steak was a liitle small from my point of view, but the other plates were fine.

In the end, I judge it three stars. Three, why not four? Well, to get four stars, I would have expected a little more. A little better service, a little better entrees,…

Carbon de Palo Parilla - Bar (Bogotá, by 340)

4 Points out of 5

The Carbon de Palo Parilla – Bar is located close to – and obviously belongs to – the original Carbon de Palo Parilla Restaurant.

Where the restaurant is a cosy, latin american steakhouse, the bar is more a classic mediterranean, simple restaurant. The entire appearance is a little bit less homely, with a tile floor and the large bbq in the back, lit by bright neon tubes.

The menu itself is not as big as in the restaurant, but you have a good variety on starters, main courses and deserts. Of course, you should have steak for dinner, like the outstanding ‘bife de lomo’ (tenderloin), either as a 250gr or a 350gr (9 or 12oz) piece. Just one word: Awesome! (said by a non american…!)

Service was very friendly and vigilant. Over all, a excellent place for steaks – despite the artless appearance.

Hotel de la Opera (Bogotá, by vincro)

1 Points out of 5

After 2 nights in this supposedly 5-star hotel I am ready to move out. The hotel itself is formed around 2 old properties that include internal atriums. The serious problems arise when they decide to blaze music throughout the venue at all hours of the day and night.

If you have the serious misfortune of ending up with a room that faces onto one of these “gaping holes” then expect to listen to all manner of dread music, conversation, and staff banging furniture and whatever else around.

The staff, are friendly enough, and at least in reception speak English, but beyond that they do not.

The food in the restaurant is hit and miss. I enjoyed a nice Ajiaca, but the lasagna was like eating Wrigley’s chewing gum, for which I had to give a miss to half of the plate.

Anyhow, if you are a light sleep anticipate being woken up form 6am with staff “shouting” as it resounds around the atrium, and kept away till midnight from equally awful music.

Also, the spa looks nice, but don’t expect the beautician/masseuse to be around even a 3rd of the day.

Scraping the barrel to think of anything positive about this place, but with that, the benefit is probably only the location, if you are happy to suffer the rest.

La Pelaqueria (Bogotá, by lauraaustin)

5 Points out of 5

If you like putting places into a neat box to categorize them, then when visiting La Peluqueria – leave the box at home!!!

It’s part hairdressers, part independent designer boutique selling fabulously unique and interesting designs, part cafe, and part art venue, with some incredible jewellery by local graphic artist whose design name is ‘Lik Mi" – this place is a treat and if this shop is an indicator of where the Candelaria and Bogota’s creative scene is going then things look really exciting! We were welcomed by this very mellow little pooch whose doeful different colour eyes and gentle personality fitted right in – I think he was just visiting while there was someone having their hair cut by a brilliant hair stylist!

I recommend a trip to this little gem as when I was there (late 2010) it was full of gorgeously original work! Long live this little gem!

Andrés Carne de Res (Chia, by Eric Amstein)

5 Points out of 5

A visit to “Andrés Carne de Res” is a must if you visit Bogotà – this is what many told me – and it is true. It is an expensive restaurant, but absolutely worth the visit.
I find it difficult to categorise ACdR as it is a restaurant, of course, but it is much more than this. It is a bar, club, party destination, theater like place with a non-stopping vibe and bouncing atmosphere – the later is true on Thursdays to Sundays, the other days it is a little more quiet.
Andres feels to me like a huge Ranch, spread out with little gangways, stairs, outdoor places and patios, which all connected creates an incredible size for a restaurant – and there is dancing people everywhere. The place is filled with a random list of decorative elements with no real reason or style, but it all matches somehow to this special place.
As it is usual in Colombia, people principally dance all the time, and in ACdR it is no different. Between the rather tight positioned tables, in the gangways, on the dance floor, everywhere. Drinking and eating in a relaxed, quiet atmosphere is not really granted but I suppose that this is not what you are looking for when you go to Andrés.
The food is good but I would not rate it excellent. Again it does not disturb me at all because there is so much more to it than the food. The menu for food and drinks has 61 pages and looks like some crazy magazin. So be prepared to have a hard time ordering.
All in all an incredible experience with dinner, party and dancing all night long in once place.

3 Points out of 5

As we reached our room (5th floor with a good sight over the whole city) and set down on our bed, it gave a big crack. The young boy that they sent us later for repairing the bed he has probably seen a lot of hotel beds but for sure he had never repaired one before.

After an hour of trying and a lot of dirt it was more or less stable again. But we had to call another time for the room service for giving us new clean blankets (the previous were dirty after the "repairing") For towels we had to beg as well. :-(

Positive: The air conditioning was working good (almost an exception in Colombian cheap hotels) ;D They had an elevator - but a slooooooow one. :D The staff was nice and corteous.

The place is located very central.. just 5 min. to walk to the "Transmillenio" (I forgot how they call the public transport in Bucaramanga)

Nice clean hotel in family atmosphere. There were not many visitors that days but the staff was nice, the rooms clean and they gave fresh towels every day.

The only think that was "so so" is the breakfast. It was so "poor" (just Arepa and scrambled eggs) that we decided to eat outside from the beginning of the 3rd day.

3 Points out of 5

We went to this hotel because we arrived to Bogota in the middle of the night and were not prepared. So we asked a man on the station to organize a hotel for us. When we arrived there the hotel staff seemed to be molested by us. They tried to charge too much money. We got a "discount" of more then 60% at the end ;D

The hotel is ok, the neighbourhood is not nice and kind of dangerous. We felt not sure. The rooms were big and modern but had except of the flat TV screen not having any charme. Later we slept in much cheaper hotels for half price. The hotels is more for business people I guess...

The bathroom was clean. and they had hot water.

5 Points out of 5

I went to a couple of different Crepes & Waffles branches while in Bogota and I really enjoyed them!

Ok so they aren’t what one would call the traditional Colombian food (which is incredibly diverse and delicious) but one in blue moon it was worth an icecream in the heat and the offerings were delicious and what made the food even more palatable was the fact that the company makes an extra effort to employ single mothers which I thought was good for the soul if not for the waistline! The service was great and the dishes were divine!

Popular with Rolos (people from Bogota as well as tourists from what I saw!)
