COMO Restaurant & Café (Praha, by John Doe)

4 Points out of 5

A stylish Restaurant & Cafe, located in a classic old Pague building, on the ground floor of the Jalta Hotel, directly facing the Wenceslas Square. Huge windows facing out, with a terrace up front heated for cold days or evening dining.

The location is equipped with high ceilings, nice to sit and relax. An open place for a short coffee or a glass of wine at reasonable prices. The restaurant offers Mediterranean menus and a few Czech specialities. They also have live music from 8:00 pm, providing background entertainment, including a pianist at some nights.

Update: We also made it for dinner. The Czech menues are good, the service (depending on the waiter) not:
Waitress 1 showed up, offered an aperitif, and was never seen again.
Waiter 2 taking the menue orders was doing a good job.
Waitress 3, offering a dessert, was never seen again.

A bit to do there.

Spent 2 nights here. Great price, service and location (10 mins walk from the National Museum).
It can be noisy given the mainly concrete interior & self closing doors. (TIP; Book a room at the rear and on floor > 1, you should be ok).
The breakfast provided is awesome, I highly recommend it as the perfiect start before a day’s rompt around Prague.
Two of our party were ill on the last day of our mini break, the hotel waived the 11 o’clock check out time, they were allowed to stay in the room until the taxi arrived at 7pm, and supplied free dvd to kill the time.

5 Points out of 5

Nothing to dislike about this luxurious 5 star hotel. They let us have a smoking room which always sits very well with me and unlike a lot of modern hotels we could open the windows. Staff pleasant with efficient check-in and out. Room service steak sandwich was delicious. Turned up with limited time for the swimming pool as it was closing early due to the Christmas break. This hotel is not right in the centre but not too far to walk. An enjoyable three days before a river cruise through Germany and Austria!

Zlaty strom (Praha, by mell4e)

1 Points out of 5

I always wanted to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Prague and when I finally got the chance it turned out a nightmare. My boyfriend and I went to Zlaty Strom Music Club which is quite central and doesn’t look like some dodgy place. We were sitting at the bar when our coats and my handbag were stolen with over 550 euros, phones, camera, and all documents. The bartender was not interested at all, so we turned to the hotel receptionist for help. The guy was so rude and told us it is not his problem and wouldn’t even call the police. The entire staff was extremely unfriendly. Finally when the police arrived they said they couldn’t do anything and left us there. Wondering what to do and how to get home without any money for a cab, any directions how to get to our friends’ house, or a phone so we can call our friends I sat on the stairs in front of the club, being really upset and crying. It is then when one of all 4 or 5 security guys attacked me from behind by grabbing me by the hair and dragging me across the stairs. He only threw me on the ground when my boyfriend stepped forward trying to help. My boyfriend got a punch in the eye and his face was covered in blood. That’s how we walked around Prague on NYE without coats, money or mobile phones, looking for a cab that would agree to take us. The manager was very unhelpful the following day when we returned to the club. Seems they found our coats, no explanations were offered. The police officer’s advice was to leave things like this because there was nothing we could prove. I am utterly disappointed in people’s rudeness and unfriendliness in Prague. Not to mention that none of the random people who witnessed the whole situation stopped and tried to help.

This place has some of the best Italian food outside Italy. It was a refreshing change from a lot of the tourist traps around this area. Try the Tiramisu. It’s divine!

Prague Ruzyně International Airport (Praha, by Batavier)

4 Points out of 5

Prague International Airport (Letiště Praha-Ruzyně / PRG) is a midsized airport with three terminals, located on the edge of Prague at some 15 km (9.3 mi.) outside the city centre. It is a well-organised and clean airport, where checking in and the handling of the luggage are done efficiently. Unfortunately, the airport offers hardly any cash dispensers and only a handful of exchange offices. This is especially inconvenient when travelling by public transport afterwards, since the ticket vending machines only accept coins. I strongly recommend not taking a taxi due to the large number of taxi sharks, who love to con the ignorant tourist. It is not uncommon for them to charge 1,000 Czech crowns (£ 32.50) for a ride to the city centre, whereas a day ticket for the public transport would set you back a mere 110 Czech crowns (£ 3.50). The journey by public transport is not entirely uncomplicated, since it requires at least one transit; first, one needs to take bus 119 to underground station Dejvická (line A) and then one can continue the journey. On the other hand, the Czechs have done a good job in creating clear and consistent bilingual directions in Czech and English at both the airport and on the public transport, so finding your way should not pose any difficulty at all. A job well done!
