Das Zauberwort hier heisst GeschmacksverstärkerIch hatte einen Groupon-Gutschein verschenkt und mich auf einen romantischen Abend gefreut. Das ist allerdings übel in die Hose gegangen.Wir waren bei der Wahl des Hauptgerichtes schon etwas irritiert dass hinter jedem Gericht mind. eine klein Fussnote stand. Überall die 1 und ansonsten noch diverse andere. Auf der letzten Seite fand sich die Erklärung: 1 - Geschmacksverstärker. Nun lässt sich darüber streiten ob man die Gerichte ohne Geschmacksverstärker hätte bestellen können, wir haben halt gedacht das es so schlimm nicht werden kann. Wie wurden vom Gegenteil überzeugt.Die Suppe war lauwarm bis kalt und schmeckte nach Dosen-Ochsenschwanzsuppe mit Krabbeneinlage. Die Gambas schwammen im Fett, waren aber wenigstens heiss.Spätestens bei den Hauptgerichten schmeckte mal doch ziemlich genau raus, dass in der Küche wahrscheinlich ein großer Streuer steht mit einer Gewürzmischung, angereichert mit Glutamat, das über so ziemlich alles gestreut wird was dem Koch vor die Hände kommt. Der Teil auf dem kein Pulver war, in unserem Fall das Gemüse, war extrem fad und schmeckte nach garnichts.Abgerundet wurde das Menü noch von aufgestocktem Ei mit Süßungsmitteln, was als Caramellpudding galt, und einer sehr zähen Mousse au Chocolat und davon, das man die sanitären Einrichtungen trotz nicht allzu vollem Restaurant nicht betreten konnte ohne Spontanherpes zu bekommen.Dazu kamen noch ein paar Punkte die man dem Restaurant nicht direkt vorwerfen konnte, die das Ambiente aber mit ins absurde gezogen haben: eine Baustelle vor der Tür sorgte für brakkigen Geruch und mit einer springenden CD versuchte man durch entsprechende Lautstärke gegen den Straßenlärm anzugehen.Unser Fazit, nachdem ich durch die Fußnoten dankbar erfahren habe dass ich wohl oder übel eine Geschmacksverstärker-Unverträglichkeit habe: Never again! This is the new branch of the well known Hamburg based burger chain, featuring the famous Blockhouse Burger.The place I often have been to on Jungfernstieg is just too hammered and busy to be fun anymore, so coming here was a real treat. So it's the usual Jim Block quality and service, but with added comfort, plus free gifts for the kids.Very nice.  (Richard Dennys, 24-05-2012) 5

NEW AND IMPROVED PARK CAFE IN PLANTEN AND BLOMEN !!So this is the nearest of the several cafes in Planten and Blomen to our home. It's really nice!Over the past months we have seen the remains of the old place get closed, dismantled and removed. In fact even though I moved to Hamburg in Feb 2011 I never saw it opened.During the Winter we noted on how nice the cafe in the Ice Rink had become and now it appears that the self same bar has moved outside for the winter to plonk itself next to the small lake, added beach vibe (complete with very large clean sandpit, beach lounger and Ibiza type tunes) and a nice self-serve menu of light bites, ice creams and cocktails.So for the past few nights I have met my family here, for after work get together. The kids play in the park, or free roller skating rink, or the playground while we sit, drink, chat and unwind in the sun after a day at work.It's already a family favourite at weekends and I am sure that once the word gets out this will be a must-come to venue in Hamburg.  Although, having said that, it is completely pointless to come here in the rain! During the winter, I never come here, since it's not really on my way to anywhere and I guess has not really looked so appealing form the outside.But we came here on an impromptu sunny evening and it was really good. Now the warm evenings have arrived, there aren't many better places to while away an evening with friends on the Fleet Insel. Because it gets so busy in this area a lot of the other places seem rushed, too busy and more than a little unfriendly.We had very friendly service from our waitress who spoke English and German without a fuss and they let us stay for as long as we wanted even after they should have closed and gone home. We even were able to enjoy the piano player from the next door Steigenberger Hotel terrace!Very nice, great fun, good chilli and beer. Heute war ich seit längerem mal wieder in der Sushi-Factory in den Colonnaden. Die Sushi sind eigentlich ganz ordentlich, auch von den Zutaten etwas über dem Durchschnitt. Ich war allerdings erschrocken, dass die Förderbänder nicht gekühlt sind.Da fuhren also einige Teller schon den ganzen Nachmittag bei Zimmertemperatur um die Runde. Die Lachs-Rollen waren jedenfalls handwarm. Ich hoffe es bekommt. Beim Lachs ging das, bei den Makrelen schmeckte das doch etwas tranig. Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass das Band früher gekühlt war. I had a massive veal wiener schnitzel with fried potatoes here on Thursday night. Huge portions, so only needed the one course - but was impressed by the food. Service was slightly slow is the only reason for knocking a star off, but overall a nice place near the centre of hamburg (benharper87, 18-05-2012) 4

Proper Irish - to the point that as an Englishman who grew up in the 70s and 80s I always feel a bit unwelcome. But that is definitely me, not them, so we come here often and if you want guinness, irish stew or great soup it's really good here.
