Typical Starbucks if that is what you are searching for. Unlike the outlet in Essen Hbf, service here is miles friendlier and the tables get cleaned more often. In the evening it has quite a lively buzz about it as it is popular with students and people meeting after work. Plenty of seating and clean lavatories.

Horrible. Been here a couple of times and the staff in the afternoon and evenings are arrogant and rude. Even when the place is empty the do not bother to clean the tables. The only good thing is the free wifi. If you are desperate for Starbucks, then take a walk down the road to the one by Grillo Theater – cleaner and far friendlier.

Fair 4 star hotel located closely to central station in Essen. Plenty of great dinner possibilities in 5 minutes walking distance. Friendly and helpful staff.

What’s not to love about Die neue Flora? They’ve got it all: a well-crafted, well-thought menu that brings you what’s fresh, seasonal, and delicious from week-to-week and season-to-season … yet always attentive to their never-to-be-forgotten house specialties. Their hand-written menus speak volumes to the care and attention they pay to every part of the experience. Köstlich: the food is always, always well-prepared and absolutely delicious. Gemütlich: A cozy, warm atmosphere and small-town, local feel. Friendly, attentive, engaging staff. I’ve been there more than a few times now, and the consistency is stupendously high. After last night’s Rustikaler Wildschweinrücken followed by some of the best Kaiserschmarrn this side of Austria, decided it’s time to make sure people know about this place, so I can keep getting my fix on for years and years to come. And they’re along a local bike tour path, so it’s an easy decision as a unique waypoint. Take it from this Ami foodie, now Local: Go. You won’t be disappointed. And plan for a snifter of aged pear schnapps (Williams) as an after-dinner digestive; it just helps prolong the soul-warming experience…

The Wakame salad was really good. Prices are fair, service good and fresh and yummy sushi.

Probably the hotel with the best reputation in Essen (4/5-star hotel, nowadays a part of the Mövenpick chain).

Located in the shopping mile of the city, literally speaking across the street from the Central Station (Hauptbahnhof)

Great single room. Bathroom was not VERY large but it was more than ok, spotlessly clean, freshly revamped. Large TV-set in the room. No wi-fi included in the basic rooms.

When I booked, the hotel site offered a price of around 120 euros. Same applied to Booking or HRS (no one included breakfast in the price). I ended up booking via a spanish portal (atrapalo.com) for a real bargain price: 78 euros, breakfast included. Indeed a bargain

Staff was real nice and the breakfast buffet didn’t fail to meet my expectations. Great.

When you are in need of a proteins shock, this chain of restaurants, which you find all over Germany, is a sure bet.

Kind service, perfect location, in the pedestrian shopping area of the town, barely a few meters away from Essen’s Central Train Station.

This service is very very poor. We have a phone/broadband package that is increasingly giving us problems.
The phone periodically fails and stays nonoperational for some minutes only to fail again shortly after it restarts, this can go on for several hours.
As for the broadband…. grrrrrrrrr, we have been tracking the speed and the result is very sad.
We have 2 speed check records (from one day)where the download was running at around 5 Mbits/s with the rest of a months records all being below 0.95 Mbit/s and the slowest being 0.04 Mbit/s which is poor even for dial up.

So how does a customer deal with this?
Well the short story is you will have to get a lawyer involved, this company is not responsible for anything and even have the arrogance to bill you if you call them to tell them their system is failing or has failed.

Amazing place!
Upon entering you sign up for one of the flat rates for drinks or/and food, the 5,5€ flat rate for non-alcoholic beverages is mandatory.
The you can walk around the 4 floors, watch artists working and talk to them, enjoy the roof terrace, find a quiet spot to work or eat at one of the tasty buffet for a flat rate or pay-per-plate.
Drinks are on each floor and you just help yourself.
Some rooms are occupied by groups with very different topics, ranging from IT to birthday parties.
You find a lot of equipment you are free to use, like guitars, table tennis, a huge TV set with a computer connected.
Signs explain the different projects – in German, but you can ask and most people will happily explain to you what is going on.

I almost can’t believe how much you get for so little money. This is a place you can spent days and days in, it’s very central, next to a big shopping mall where only 2 coffees will be more expensive than a flat rate for a complete day.

There is wireless in the complete house for free.

Contrary to what one might expect with all this the house is not crowded and never seems to be.

Hotel is ok with helpful receptionist and clean rooms. The problem is the part thin walls mean you get constantly woken up by other noisy, less considerate neighbours.
