Nice food, nice atmosphere!

Läd immer wieder zum hingehen ein. Das Ambiente ist wirklich sehr gemütlich. Die Bedienung ist super aufmerksam. Das Essen ist von wirklich sehr guter Qualität.
Rundum ein gelungener Abend.

terrible place more like a low class youth hostel…… ugly, staff commands you around, heating not properly working and 4 floors without elevator…… stay away if you can…..

Kiel is probably not the most beautiful city in Germany but this cafe is quite an exception and a good place to spend an evening chatting with friends.

I think, the “Kieler Woche” is the most important event in the city. Every year over a million visitors watch the spectacular “Windjammerparade”, enjoy concerts or the delicious food from the international market. Many nations send their official marine-training-sailors, especially the ones from Russia are very impressive! Therefore you can meet a very interesting mixture of different people.
In the past it was really a big deal going to the “Kieler Woche”, not only because the music-acts are some of the most successful ones in Germany, but also because every concert was free, and in the meantime you can enjoy one of the delicate meals from one of the numerous food-huts. After the official program one can party until twilight in one of the clubs or just on the street (especially Eggerstett-Straße).
By now it is less fun going there (my opinion). Many of the concerts ares not free anymore, the access is regulated, the program is nearly the same from year to year, and once you have tried every single snack, there is nothing more to explore. By the way,the prices are really high, so be sure to have enough money in your pocket!!!
The only thing I really enjoy every year is the firework at the last sunday. I have never seen something more impressive, and I have seen many fireworks in my life ;)

A nice location near the Kiel’s port and a trendy deco… but concerning the rest : it was so strange…
First the waiter assured us that he could speak French and after the first “Bonjour” he was saying that he couldn’t go on in French because he had a bad throat/Hals (!) After the first look in the menu card and the prices, it was sure we were in a VIP-CHIC restaurant. The presentation was very elegant but the choice was very limited. My husband was finding no salad in the card…. so he was asking the possibility to have one and the waiter seemed to be very surprised about this demand. But he was nice to agree to order the Chef a salad. By the way the waiter was loosing some shrimps out the plate on the nice thick carpet by bringing the salad. That was not a 4 star service !
I was attracted by a salmon carpaccio but as it was as entrance dish, so I was ordering (in English) to have it as main course (with a bigger portion) apparently my English was not understandable enough : I had in my plate a 3 cm disc of salmon carpaccio… Hopefully I was not so hungry… We were six adults and hopefully we had an interesting conversation because we were served one hour after we arrived. Concerning the wine, the choice was quickly made : they have only two red wine and one rosé, and if you want only one glass you should pay 5,50 €/glass ! The ambience was cold (only one other six persons table who was celebrating a birthday) that we choose to have some sweat dishes in a other place. The bill was quite consequent : +/- 150 € for
one sander, one beef brochette, 2 chicken breast, one salmon carpaccio, 2 beers and 3 glass wine, 1 water.
To finish we had to pay the parking place 1,50 € /hour (we came with 2 cars) to the hotel reception and of course they were not deducing our one hour waiting delay.
Conclusion : this restaurant plays the VIP place but service is long, staff is not so flexible and sympathetic, food… nothing really special but expensive !

I visited Kieler Burger only once as I was attracted by the fresh design and the new fast food opportunity around the corner on my way home. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone! Service quality was low, the food wasn’t that fresh, rather out of the box stuff and no specials like a Kiel Burger were available. Since it is not cheap either I see no reason to visit this place ever again (the best Kumpir shop in Kiel is just 200meters away!!).

The pizza had lots and lots of cheese- way too much for me, and the crust was very, very soft, mushy, and spongy. No bite or crunch, just generally soft and puffy and mushy, kind of like a bad American pizza. The bruschetta was pretty good with lots of tomatoes and garlic/oil. The minestrone soup was good, but it was not minestrone- it had no beans, but rather a nice vegetable soup with no tomato base at all. Overall, the food was ok if you stay away from the pizza, which was a big disappointment and why we went there.

One of the best places to eat if you are employed in the public service! If not, take care about the timing of your visit as you will be charged with 2 EUR extra during the rush hour! :-)
