Vista Bonita - Maspalomas
Carmen La Foret 1
35100 Maspalomas
I had a fantastic time at Vista Bonita, the complex is spotless, plenty of sun loungers a great pool and a nice heated jacuzzi. There is a nice bar area where you can get a coffee, beer and a good selection of other drinks, you can also order food from the restaurant next door. Be sure not to miss happy hour, I can recommend a drink called POP just ask Dave. What really stands out at Vista Bonita is the dedication of the staff, so friendly and helpful, respectful of your privacy but also happy to chat away to you. Thanks to Ian, Nico and Dave for a superb week, I will be back again soon. (Paulbury, 29-04-2012)

althay apartments - Costa Calma
35627 Costa Calma
stayed here all inclusive last year and not impressed. the bar kept running out of draft beer and the bar service was appalling - the food was poor most days and there was usually a long wait for it to be brought out from the kitchens, so at breakfast for example they'd bring out a tray of eggs and then you'd wait 15 mins for the bacon to come out - the bathroom and living room were nice and light and airy but the bedroom was small, dark and dingy - lovely beach at costa calma but i would definitely choose another hotel next time - some of the staff were unfriendly to the point of rudeness and looked like they were fed up with being there - i knew the feeling (lyndon63, 22-05-2012)

Boot & Ball British Sports Bar - Morro Jable
Avenida del Saladar 34
35625 Morro Jable
Really great Bar with absolutely tasty food offerings. We felt very welcome here although we are germans. That somehow seems to be a problem for most of the Spanish but not here. The british owners are mucho relaxed – The guy was really communicative and showed us his variation of beers (with little testings) and even offered my girlfriend some characteristic drink called snake bite.Wish we had discovered this place way earlier. Comedor Ginory - Arrecife
Calle Juan de Quesada 7
35500 Arrecife
From inside a very stylish and old place. Meat (rumpsteak) is not really worth it, but the fish and gambas are quite cheap and very tasty. Also the house wine is very nice and for 9 euro a bottle very affordable. If you just had a walk through the shopping street of arrecife, it's worth a visit. (miheilo, 10-05-2012)

Casa rural Los Ajaches - Lanzarote
Calle pico redondo 1
35570 Lanzarote
Thanks to Casa Rural Los Ajaches, our 5 day stay in Lanzarote was WOW. The apartment in this gorgeous old house was clean and had everything we needed. The view from the house was fantastic! You can see Playa Blanca and Fuerteventura. Playa Papagayo was just a short drive away and that's where we went every day, amenities of Playa Blanca and Marina Rubicon (supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, banks, etc) is 5 min drive away. Silvana and Stefano were very hospitable and when we come back to Lanzarote we will definitely return to Casa Rural Los Ajaches! (Raminta, 09-05-2012)

Hiperdino - Lanzarote
Lanzarote
Decent sized supermarket in Playa Blanca and the best place to come and stock up for the week if you're on a self catering holiday in Playa Blanca. It has an underground car park which is free for an hour (or thereabouts) if you spend over 6 Euros - don't forget to keep your receipt and present it at the little office in the car park to get your ticket validated. A good range of products, I can't comment too much on price as I don't really count the pennies when I'm on holiday so I wouldn't really notice if one shop was a bit cheaper than another. Lovely fish counter, a good range of bread and rolls (not always easy to find in Lanzarote supermarkets in my experience) and wonderful cured hams which unfortunately we had to forego as we would never have got through one in a week! :-) If you're a tourist and you want to pay by credit card don't forget your passport as you'll be required to produce it upon payment. Look out for the litre boxes of wine for less than a Euro too - they're surprisingly good! (Jacksters, 01-01-2011)

Alisios Canarios - Teror
C/Casa Huerta 10
35330 Teror
OK, so you KNOW how much we love Teror, hidden away in the mountains (OK, VOLCANO) of Gran Canaria, a village that is on the verge of being a town! You also know we love the Cathedral (El Senora Nuestra de Pino - there is another review!). And now, there is the splendid little store of Alisios Canarias, which sells natural, organic, local perfumes, aftershaves, eaux de toilette, soaps, locally produced arts and crafts and some nice touristy stuff (OK, fridge magnets - get over it!). We first found the store a few years back, and then, like Brigadoon, couldn't find it again. But we did a few weeks back and gleefully purchased some splendid new aftershaves. There is one that is based on Poinsettia, and one called "Lava" containing... you guessed, tiny little bits of lava, as well as the actual aftershave! The store is WELL worth a visit and the staff are charming too! (TQ2boyz, 03-04-2012)

Martel House Restaurant - Las Palmas Naval
2 Planta
35100 Las Palmas Naval
Snobbery is a terrible thing... we had been walking past the Martel nearly every night while staying in Gran Canaria for nearly eight years thinking that, well, it was in the Yumbo, ergo, it couldn't be that good, right? I am here to eat some humble pie, instead of the excellent dinner we had! We popped in one evening on the off chance, to find the restaurant heaving with slightly noisy diners, and were instantly seated and looked after. Wine was brought to the table in seconds and the waiter most attentive. We ordered a couple of staples (Garlic Mushrooms and Prawns in Chilli Sauce and a good old fashioned Sirloin ) not as an obvious "hook", but, in retrospect, the kind of meal that is so de rigeur it could easily be provided in a slapdash manner. Nope! The starter was spittingly hot and very well balanced, the prawns nicely juicy and al dente, and the garlic well roasted. The steak was just as I like it - JUST the medium side of rare and oozing just a smidge! The waiter brought a fine bottle of Sangre del Toro to the table and kept a steady eye on us as we ate, while also serving the other diners. The meal was incredibly reasonably priced (cheaper than out on Avenida Tirajana, anyway!) and we were most satisfied and vaguely embarassed at not having tried the Martel earlier. We can certainly add this one to the list of niteries on our holidays! (TQ2boyz, 03-04-2012)

Sushi Mex - San Bartolome de Tirajana
Lugar las Meloneras 3
35128 San Bartolome de Tirajana
Tempura Sushi and the Sangria was wonderful. Nachos could have been better, they were soggy and not a very big portion. Very friendly and a beautiful atmosphere. The whole Japanese Mexican mix is a great idea! (optikalusion, 01-04-2012)

Cafe Hotel Madrid - Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Plaza de Cairasco 4
35002 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Wonderfully old style dining room inside (or you can eat on the square outside), with good, wholesome food that seems like home cooking. When we were there, it was like a dining room for locals, as well as a few tourists. I had peppers stuffed with salt cod, and apple tart for pud (very eggy, with lovely burnt bottom). Lunch for two with wine was 24 euros. (glasshalfempty, 25-03-2012)
