What/Why:
Classic rock band from Georgia fronted by the enigmatic Michael Stipe. The three-piece band are considered by many in the industry to be one of the most popular alternative acts of all time. From their debut release, Murmur, the American band have grown in status since the early 1980s and achieved global success in 1991 and 1992 for their 'Out of Time' and 'Automatic for the People' albums.

was at front for Manchester LCC show…they rocked… Stipe was fantastic and for 2 hours held a
delighted crowd. I was lucky enough to be at the front and he held my hand.I was seated for Twickenham
and was worried it just wouldnt be the same but…they rocked…I still only ever want to be standing at
front really….
However have read through these comments I feel moved to write a few comments. Bill Rieflin walked into
the crowd …twice….on Guillemots drum solo on last number and during the Editors set. Not one person
picked up on this…. I know he isn’t an original band member but hey the 3 r.e.m. guys rate him enough
to use him for all tours etc what “fans” eh to ignore him. I moved down to meet him as he returned to
back stage area and thanked him for his contributions to great gigs.
I have seen the band a dozen times or more now and I have never ever been disappointed. Stipe works so
hard to perform and give the crowd a great time. The band treat their fans unbelievably well. $12 fan
club fee gets advance ticket sales advantage, early entry to shows, + usual newsletters etc and the
famous ” Xmas package” Last Friday Stipe stayed at the book signing at Waterstones Picadilly for “Hello”
til every last person in the queue had been seen and spoken to. THAT is CLASS and consideration. Music
wise. They rock. I had never heard Ignoreland live before so was ecstatic. if honest i thought Exhuming
McCarthy at twick didn’t sound great but everything else did. They did Perfect Circle and it was just
beautiful. as was Let me In. For all the smug twee journalists who dwelt on lower ticket sales there
were a lot of very happy ppl at both concerts i went to. Scottish fan a lil short changed this year as
school hols ended. The band’s world tour includes a great deal of Europe so maybe fewer foreign fans
travelling here. At Stirling on the Up tour half Scandinavia seemed to be there. I do wish papers if
sending people to comment and to review would send people with half a brain and knowing something of
what they are talking about….
i would like to thank the band, their management and ppl working for them for their efforts and a
special thanks to the security and ppl working at Twickenham as they were incredibly kind to people,
friendly and efficient. manchester MEN arena staff could learn a lit as I for one am determined never to
return there.

For those interested in seeing REM this weekend there are actually a butt load of tickets on sales here - http://www.gumtree.com/cgi-bin/list_postings.pl?search_te… and all quite reasonably priced. Cheapest i have seen is about £25 for a standing ticket.
