A Sky Jet Black, Louisiana, Bristol

What/Why:

A Sky Jet Black formed in early 2010 and locked themselves in the studio for 2 months creating and refining their sound. Isolating themselves from the distractions of the world their darkly desolate pop evolved. Upon Re-entering and playing their inaugural show at the infamous Monstrosity House at SXSW they went into two hectic years of touring and recording. Their schedule could have broken even the most dedicated of bands, though for ASJB with a UK tour and a 12”/Tape release to come in September their journey has only just begun.

Reviving sonic tropes from the minimal wave crypts with Berlin era Bowie-esque melodies meandering their way through beautiful harmonies with driving synth and guitar riffs giving direction to the ethereal swirls.

Expertly soaked in 80’s digital reverb the vocals drift in and out of consciousness twisting down a dark tunnel of blurred obscurity. Moments of woken clarity punch through bleak industrial soundscapes with the help of classic drum machines and catchy tight bass guitar led riffs. The often dark mood is punctuated throughout with warm uplifting melodies that fully encompass you as a listener. The laconic lyricism abides a subtle and sincere philosophy of Romantic Nihilism, a reflection of their day-to-day lives. Each song weaving a narrative through the ether, hanging in the air somewhere above the music, seemingly travelling towards the light as the band play on.

Halfway through the album they tackle the tricky issue of a Stone Roses cover fully making it their own and more than pulling it off that even the most ardent fan could not help but get onboard. Their
