Ciao bella Gruppa!

Just wanted to ask where the best place you’ve been to in Italy was … and why?

Also: has anyone lived in Italy and how did the reality live-up to your expectations? (Highlights and Low-lights!)

A presto :-)

the Duomo in Florence is breath taking. My friend and i stayed at the top all afternoon, just chatting, drawing, looking at the view…

St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums in Rome. Both totally took my breath away. Why? The architecture, amazing sculptures, the view from the cuppola of the basilica…too many reasons, really. I was walking about gaping for several hours in both places.

Torino’s not the prettiest town, but Piedmontese food and wine is some of the best I’ve ever had.

Ciao, Italyfans in the UK. This ist one of my favorite spots down there - a beutiful little bistro/restaurant/hotel in the abruzzo mountains. I hope you can translate it…
Norbert/Stuttgart/Germany

this is the short english version (please excuse any mistakes):

Santo Stefano ist a small medieval village in the abruzzo mountains between the city of L `Aquila and the “Campo imperatore” near the Gran Sasso , the highest mountains in the south of Italy. Narrow alleys, small places, a couple of restaurants: and - at the entrance of the village - this little Cafe/restaurant. A small bar, a beautiful dining room sourrounded by pictures, paintings and artisan craftwork. The menue with gastronomic specialities from the abruzzo area (10 - 15 €) and beautiful individual guestrooms for a pleasant holiday. http://www.360gradi.info/abruzzo/ristorante

I worked in Italy entertaining American forces around Naples then I worked in an Italian circus for about 18 months. My Italy with the circus was real I guess. The people of the south..they were poor but happy.

@ siany: If you stay arround Palermo have a look at the artist hotel “Atelier sul mare” in Castel di Tusa.

It`s a funny hotel, where a dozzen of international artists createt the guest rooms in their own way. You can sleep every night in another room, if you want. Tusa is located between Palermo and the medivial town of Cefalu.

What a fascinating hotel the Art Hotel looks.
Does every speak Italian? If not how to you get around?
When I went to live in Italy I spoke no Italian at all..probably still don’t..I speak Neopolitan :0)
When translating one day between my boss and some Americans they told him I spoke great Italian. He replied “Yes, with a perfect English accent.” ;0P

Wow that hotel looks amazing! But I’m trying to do the trip on a budget - over night trains, Couch surfing and hostels :-) The hotel isn’t as expensive as I thought it would be, but as I’m travelling on my own, it’s more expensive :-( Hotels do not appreciate adventurous young girlies. Although I’m on a shoestring budget, this is really so I can spend more on good food and presents and shoes. And I’ve booked a night at The Ritz in Florence too!

Only two months to go…

Ah sì, The Ritz, that renowned Florentine hostel ;-)

My Italian Teacher recommended Sciacca (towards west Sicily) as being one of the best areas to visit.

Thanks for your tips and translations, gargano!

@Templar - not sure which is better apparently I speak Italian with a French accent…

We could set-up a side group for anyone who wants to practice their Italian - any takers?
