I’m going to be showing my energetic inlaws around London this weekend. Can anyone recommend a route which takes you through some good historical and natural places of interest?
A friend of mine suggests using the Jubilee Walkway as a template:
Hi Maverick,
I usually do the same tour when somebody comes to visit me in London.
We start in London Bridge (to see Tower Bridge) and we walk on the Thames Path towards Westminester.
At Westminster, we go to Trafalgar Square, St James Park and Buckingham Palace.
From there we go to Picadilly, Leicester Square, China Town and finish with Covent Garden.
It might seem a bit long but my guests are generally happy (even if tired) because they’ve seen everything they wanted to see.
A variation on Devan’s marathon (!) is to walk up from the Embankment to St Paul’s; and then along towards Fleet Street, cutting down via St Bride’s church (interesting archaeology in the crypt); and via the Inns of Court and Temple Church back to Embankment.
The Inns of Court are a fascinating corner of London, with their collegiate architecture and narrow lanes: and little known, as there are no major roads or bus routes through them. And Temple Church is now crawling with Da Vinci Code fans, although the crusader tombs are still worth a look.

Hi Maverick,
I know I’m 7 months too late - but maybe your inlaws will be back to see you again soon.
Why don’t you take them on a walk talk tour? They are ideal for showing people around and they will be very impressed with your knowledge of London’s secrets. Take a look at the website www.walktalktour.com and you will see what I mean.
Oh, and if they don’t have MP3 payers you can now pick them up in the likes of Curry’s for under £15.
