It’s not really been biking weather at all, has it? I must confess mine has been sitting with it’s cover firmly on and the battery in the warm and dry of the flat on the charger. Apart from icy roads - always a no-no on the bike, I think - below 5C my hands just freeze after a while, even with winter gloves. Trains it is, then.

We’ve had icy roads and thick fog in odd places today - not riding or driving weather! Never had a problem with cold, but I really do wrap up like a Michelin Man!

Have been looking at the upcoming rallies locally, but not checked for a while due to medical constraints. Will be more interested when the weather improves anyway!

Things are still a bit of a mess here… although the main roads are clear, our side road in Kensington is still an icy skating rink, and the pavements are pretty lethal in places too. Most of the bikes here still have 3 or 4 inches of snow on top of them, although today it seems to be melting fast. (See pic on http://westlondonblogger.blogspot.com )

My other half has been marooned in Brighton and is trying to come up today - trains are still in a mess in South London.

My mate Si turned up today on his R1 streetfighter - GIT!!
I thought I’d seen Nirvana when I saw a GPZ9 hardtail, but this thing was a work of art, quite literally.
Carved gear pedal cover, engraved frame, custom clocks, dump valve warning light. This piece of art will soon be in the pages of a periodical close to my heart or my name ain’t arehl*.
Actually it really will be in print soon.
Look out for “Is this the new Kat”

Well, I find myself here again, at a loose end at 3 O’Clock in the morning.
I have owned over 25 motorcycles and, I was 25 years old before I realised that you could sell them to anyone else but breakers.
Contrary to what another contributor states in another thread, the greatest (let’s call 'em bikes from now on) bike ever is the GPZ 900.
Before GPZ9 all bikes had a hinge in their frame. Afterwards, they all had To come up to GPZ9s standards and, in general they did, but as far as I’m concerned there has never been an engine to match the 9.
They’ve tried but failed to reproduce an engine that will do 150mph+ and pull from 30mph in 5th.
I don’t own an R1 and don’t want to. I did own an EXUP and did 184mph (indicated) on the M5 (Tewksbury junction to M50 junction) on a Saturday morning, and it was very boring. I got my EXUP after I’d had my 9 and I hated it.
    WHY?
I hated it cos it didn’t give me any warning when it was going to let go.
The most fun bike I’ve owned was a GSX750ET (pre fairing bike). It used to buck and cuss when you gave it sht (top speed probably 125mph). It didn’t wait till you weren’t looking and then kick you in the ass. My EXUP (for EXUP read R1) gave absolutely no warning when it was going to let go.
I got my EXUP when I was still dipatching, and my dispatch bike was a GSX 750 ES.
My greatest day as a rider (on my GSX 750ES) was when I scratched both pegs on the rondabout going into work - IN THE WET - F
k geting your knee down, that’s easy if you go round a roundabout at 8am on a Sunday morning or try often enough on a track day.
I also had a race that topped 150mph with another EXUP on normal roads, and slight bends turned into hairpins.
I now think I’m sounding like the worst kind of bike pr
ck so I’ll end this now.

Hi, I am from Russia, I will be in Stafford whole month in Spt. I will be glad if somebody introduces Stafford or other lions to me. I will be glad to find new friends in Great Britain.

    Ok then

been riding bikes since I reached 17…sometime back in the stone age..

always hated the idea of driving a car – too claustraphobic slow and from what I could see always someone wanting a lift somewhere…never bothered with a car licence as I wouldn’t use it….love flying small planes and Gliders though – if only I was born rich….learned to fly in the ATC.

so started on a little Yamaha 100cc – makes me laugh now….actually used it to travel from Loughton (just north of London) up to RAF Debden (Cambs Border) so I could fly gliders…used to take forever.

went through the usual 250s – managed to get a free one from York University when I was there as it had been abandoned. That ran for about 3 years after I had got it going again.

had a Yamaha XS 750 US custom that was a lovely bike….bought an old XS 750 C and still have that locked away as a project bike.

In 2004 I got a Triumph Bonneville (Hinckley) but that was stolen.

Now riding around on a 2001 Triumph Sprint RS in Triumph racing yellow – I try to keep top the speed limits but it’s hard. It’s great for photographing my airfields – pull into the side of the road and never in anyone’s way.

    will upload a photo.

any other M/C nutters out there

Hello again y’all!…I have not been around on here of late as I am mostly in fields 80% of the year nowadays….I am the Lincolnshire representative for the National Association for Bikers with a disability or NABD – as most peeps know us! http://www.nabd.org.uk/ I have been in post since June 2009 and love it! I take my info stall all over the country to bike rallies and help put the ability into disability for disabled bikers by assisting them to apply for a grant to enable them to carry on riding their machines & continue to be among the biking community. It’s great to see this thread revived and to see some new posts…Chris – I have a XS1100 in my garage as a project…And a Z1300 that is currently being triked but taking forever as I am never at home…lol…
    Keep the posts coming folks!…Luv & peace….Kat…xxx :-)

    KK
encouraging the disabled to get on their bikes and ride – can’t say fairer than that…I’d hate not to be able to ride my bike anymore.

    XS 11…nice machine…very nice machine.

    z1300 Trike – eeek – you’ll have to put a piccy up
