I went to the Anchor & Hope in Southwark last night which was an Awesome October pub.

Any other pubs in central London people recommend i visit before Christmas?

I would recommend the Bree Louise and The Old Fountain to you. I think they are probably my favourites in central London.

The Bree Louise is indeed a wonderful venue in terms of real ale, but we had a strange experience there a year ago. A group of us had been drinking there for an hour or so, towards closing time, and several had had an enjoyable chat with some of the staff.

We were getting ready to leave and saying our goodbyes when the manager returned - apparently from another engagement - and took exception to where we were standing. Not a simple 'can you move, please?' (though it wasn't apparent why), but a rapidly escalating blast of invective and insult. The rest of the staff and remaining patrons looked on in astonishment.

We've never quite got over it, and have always been a little trepidatious of returning ever since...
