If anyone is in the area, Warrington have an excellent beer festival every October at the Parr Hall. Not CAMRA run, but sponsored mainly by the Rotary Club and run by one of Thomas Hardy’s (formerly Burtonwood) brewers.

The Worlds Largest Real Ale festival, due to the fact it is on on 700 pubs at the same time. I have put down the Red Lion and Pinapple as the venue, but simply check out the JD Wetherspoons site for your nearest venue. Some good beers available, including “yo ho yona yona” from Japan!

This can be very “iffy”. Some of the JD’s really make a big thing of it and stock all the ales they can, making sure that they change the pumps quickly and the ales are on top form. I’ve been to some where they have all the literature, but only two or three ales actually on the pumps…”It’s just gone off”, “We didn’t get that on”, “I’ll put that on when it’s settled”......Take your pick. I must say, though, that I don’t agree with the majority of CAMRA that Wetherspoon’s is not worth bothering with. They do try to cater for serious connoisseurs of real ale, there’s nothing wrong with prioritising making a profit.

I am far from a lover of these pubs but wetherspoon start there real ale festival on the 30th oct,and for that reason only i shall pay a few visits

  • 12 November 2008

i know what you mean, but there is actually a decent wetherspons pub in se london- its called the bankers draft in eltham, and everyone in there drinks bitters and ales. the staff know how to serve them as well, unlike some, who seem to think they are in a race!

The King’s Highway in Inverness is excellent - and it’s a Wetherlodge, so you can stay there, have dinner (not brilliant), have some wonderful ales, then get into the lift to your room for a kip before starting again!
