Interesting book to read, one can debate about whether it is brilliant or not - A Long way down, by Hornby.
If you like Hornby’s black humor, you will LOVE it. If not - don’t bother.

I like Nick Hornby - is it Nick?

  • 2 February 2009

It’s Nick. I read it with my sixth graders, some laughed all the time, some cursed it, and the language, because we read it in English. Haha.

I have just discovered a new crime writer - well - new to me.

It’s an author called John Sandford and he writes range of books with Prey in the title - on Eyes of Prey at the moment. All based around a police detective called Lucas Davenport.

If you like American cop series this one is worth a try.

I want to read one of John Updike’s. He just died…

  • 2 February 2009

I tried to read his Rabbit books a while back and I really didn’t enjoy them at all. Found them very hard going - I thin I got half way through 2nd one and gave up.

Let me know if you try one and like it.

Theres one that’s a stream of consciousness, a bit like Ulysses by James Joyce

I have got an Updike on my bookshelves that I have yet to read…I forget which one, but it has been unread for ages, so I think I may have to give it a go now! I have been reading John Grisham’s this week…they are very good thrillers with out too much shooting and things blowing up!

A Prayer for Owen Meeny - I forget the author. An unusual story and quite compelling. It was Book of the week on Radio 4. I think it’s quite brilliant
