Newton Faulkner and José González have both recently released covers of Massive Attack’s Teardrop, but which is the least artistically void?
I’m gonna go with José.
Later when I’m not at work I’ll go and listen to them and then I can answer the question but I mean Jose (I don’t know where that button is on this thing) just simply has a better name, don’t you think? I mean unless he’s Spanish or something, in which case it’s cheating. But if he’s not then I would award him the “Least Artistically Void” prize for making more of an effort with the name.
Well, I’m going with José González too since I saw Faulkner do his live at Cambridge Folk Festival and it was some awesome guitar handiwork…
haha, well basically Newton has simply re-recorded the Massive Attack version, just using live instrumentation. José has at least done a little re-imagining, in my opinion.
i hung out with Newton when he was supporting JBT in london, hes a cool guy, and a solid roots musician, but what it really comes down to is picking between to average musicans…very rarely does a cover outstrip the org. jose hit heartbeats was a cover to. so im going to call it a tie on the grounds that neither of them will be on my mp3 player in 5 years time
