I think you jumped right to the top of the heap there: I think they’re great: clever and hummable at the same time - I’m told their words are all clever-clever too. I’ll try and think of other german bands I like…(sound of sprockets whirring, little pings and the like)....

Interested in some good old motorik krautrock? If so then I’d recommend Neu or Can. It’s not really my thing, but it’s what Germany is famous for.

Die Sterne, Die Toten Hosen, Die Fantastischen Vier, Die Ärzte (+Farin Urlaub solo), Olli Schulz & der Hund Marie… off the top of my head.

One of my absolute favourites from the Berlin Underground: Lonski and Classen. Experimental, ambient, great textures and surreal soundscapes.

And you gotta listen to Stereototal - although the singer is French, but the’ve lived for years and years in Berlin so I guess you could classify them as a German band. Their version of Salt ‘n’ Pepa’s “Push It” ROCKS. And in a very strange-accented and slightly bizarre way.

Man, I didn’t know ‘push it’ was salt n’ pepa!

Oh yeah, stereototal - i have like, all their albums or something. They’re interesting in a weird euro-pop kinda way. Quite german, but they sing in all languages.

Anyway I think I just came across the perfect band for you, phil. Tankard! (http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/tankard) With album titles like “Alcoholic Metal”, “The Morning After”, “Kings of Beer”, “Beast of Bourbon” and “The Beauty and the Beer” how can you go wrong?

disclaimer: I’ve never listened to any of their stuff. However they have recently released their greatest hits album “Best Case Scenario: 25 Years in Beers”

    Tocotronic, pretty good.

I’d recommend “Sportfreunde Stiller”, Kettcar and Tomte!
