What’s gone awry with London style? What’s with the 'I just got out of bed and may or may not be a junkie’ look?
At the risk of sounding like an miserable old Alf Garnet, I remember when even society’s wrong 'uns took care with their clobber. No hoodies and Reebok classics then, oh no.
The Kray brothers. Not only did they hurt their own, but they looked immaculate whilst doing so. If I am going to get done for being a slag, please make it by someone who looks the part.
They created the blueprint. No one dared do the rounds collecting up the weekly protection pot without a Cashmere Crombie, a Saville Row suit and Italian shoes.
Even in the 80s, if you were on the unfortunate end of an encounter with the ICF, thoughtfully they would leave a business card to mop up the blood and so you could find solace in the knowledge that you’d been on the end off a sartorially elegant kicking. Maybe Farah slacks, Gabicci and snakeskin shoes. Or, if it was a more casual look that they’d been sporting, you can guarantee it was men in fine European sports and tennis wear pummelling you.
I call on you, even the lower strata of society: pull up your slacked jeans, forget Sports Direct ever existed and have some more stylish role models. Even if it is Ron and Reg, at least that’s a start…...
