You may be interested in another news article: a new line through London given the green light, at last! Whoopee!
Sie dürfen sich für einen anderen Nachrichtartikel interessieren: eine neue Linie durch London gegeben das “grüne Licht”. Endlich!! Es wird zwei Tunnel, jeden 16km lang haben, und wird €24 Milliarde kosten.

Interessantes Projekt. Freut mich immer, wenn es auch für den öffentlichen Verkehr Großprojekte gibt. Crossrail wird hoffentlich die U-Bahnen in London entlasten (die habe ich sehr gefüllt in Erinnerung). Ist geplant, die Bahn auch mit dem normalen Ticket benutzen zu können?
In Leipzig graben sie auch schon seit Monaten die Stadt um wegen einem ähnlichen Projekt: City-Tunnel (natürlich deutlich kleiner). English Information
Da werden S-Bahnen, Regionalbahnen, und (angeblich) einmal pro Stunde auch ein ICE durchfahren (ich vermute, das wird der von Hamburg nach München sein, und somit 15 Minuten Gesamtfahrzeit einsparen).
Mittlerweile sind einige Löcher in der Innenstadt wieder geschlossen (einmal tat sich ein neues auf). Für den Weihnachtsmarkt soll auch die große Baustelle für die Station “Markt” (center of city center ;-) ) fertig sein. Die Verbindung ist dann 2010 fertig.
Das Projekt war/ist ziemlich umstritten, weil es viel kostet und der Hauptbahnhof gleich neben dem Stadtzentrum ist.
Die Chance ist, daß Menschen aus dem Umland leichter ins Stadtzentrum kommen und damit Arbeits- und Kaufkraft mitbringen.wrnr edited this post 05-10-2007, 14:44

Ich denke, daß die Idee ist, daß es ein Teil des normalen Zugnetzes ist. Aber es ist wird nicht beendet bis 2017. Wer weiß, welche Karten wir dann haben? Die Bahnhöfen in zentralem London sind sehr schwierig, und auch teuer, weil sie mit den vorhandenen U-bahn Bahnhöfen verbinden.

Deutschland hat viele solche Bahnlinien durch seine Städte, selbstverständlich. (für das S-Bahnen). Wir nur fangen jetzt an…

The rebuilt station at London St Pancras opened today as the new Eurostar terminal for London. It looks fabulous. The new line now provides a 300kph service from the Channel Tunnel, with journey times to Brussels of 1h51m and to Paris of 2h15m.

Does that mean it is easier to get from Bristol to London by train ? And will you get elevators and escalators ?

That’s cool:
Frankfurt - London less than 5 hours.That can (under certain circumstances) be faster than by plane - and on the way back a stop in Paris.

Er, no - different line. But it’s pretty easy (or at least I think so!) to get from Bristol to London already, with two stations each offering a 200kph service every 30 minutes.
The new station serves the Calais-Lille-Brussels-Paris services, the main line to Nottingham, Sheffield and Derby, and there are underground platforms for the north-south cross-London services, as well as an expanded booking hall for the underground.
It’s all fully accessible above ground - lots of escalators and lifts, although I don’t know if all the underground lines are accessible here by wheelchair - probably not, as most of central London’s other underground stations are not - a problem with being over 100 years old…
