Quite simply the best local, independent business in the UK. Any of the businesses nominated in the other categories can go up for this award but if there’s somewhere that doesn’t fit into those categories that you think is especially awesome then here’s where you make sure they get recognised by tagging them with ‘hidden gem’.

The King Charles pub, just off the bottom of Caledonian road - it has bar billiards, quite simply the finest, rarest pub games out there.

I haven’t read the whole thread, I admit, but can we open this up to all of Europe? Raises the stakes, I realize, but since I have a certain bakery in mind, I’m going for it. :)

I’d like to nominate Sarah Nelson’s Grasmere Gingerbread - and suggest to the caterers that we have this with coffee after the posh awards banquet.

I love Rockers!, It’s my retreat in the northern quarter, Not very many people know it’s there, The shop moved from John St to Dale St and then to Tarriff St after the fire. I shopped there since the beginning and now the owner is a very close friend! I always go in for a chat, to buy clothes and to find out what gigs are on, some say the owner Kathy is a beacon of the Manchester Rock’n’Roll community- all I know is that she is lovely and helps everyone!
