Good London Pub Food

I have a friend who’s coming over to visit the UK, and would like a recommendation of a 'good English pub’ to go to for food.

The only pubs I can think of purveying 'traditional English food’ are those Nicholson ones that dot the West End, and I’m pretty sure they’re not the best that London has to offer… So: recommendations please, where’s a good 'English’ pub to take a tourist to for food? I’m thinking of all those clichés: fish and chips, bangers and mash, steak and ale pie, the works.

Incredible pie room, in a sweet old pub in the centre of town. As trad as you can stand it, but book before going, there are only 10 tables.

Hey Markle, the Dean Street Townhouse is expensive, but good for pimped British comfort food if you feel like spoiling yourselves!
