Good pub/bar for small birthday gathering in Soho?

Hey - new here and having a little get together in a couple of weeks for my birthday (argh). Just after some suggestions for a great place to meet everyone in/near Soho before we go for a boogie at the Borderline. Not too posh or expensive, casual-ish, gay and straight friendly, good music but not so loud we can’t have a catch up. Am I asking for too much?!

all depends where abouts in london, and on what date- if it is the week then i recommend the lani tikki lounge, in greenwich (opposite the main bus stops). nice place to go for a couple. failing that what about the slug and lettuce chains?

yeah, i know what you mean- free entry on a saturday night, very rare! and very often the music is bad, and too loud!
