So far, I only get my fix at Josephine’s on Charlotte Street. The folks there are nice, always expect a good Filipino crowd, and the selection is wide. Of course, with the area being so full of restauants it often gets overlooked but really shouldn’t be -- do you really need another fix of the usual? I recommend particularly the sinigang (sour tamarind soup with vegetables and meat/seafood), which is done well, with no skimping on the filling. And the fruit juices - they take me home!

However, the place is notoriously expensive, especially if you know how simply some of the dishes can be made at home. Also, some dishes, like the adobo (chicken in vinegar/soy sauce) and bistek tagalog (beef and onions stewed with lemon/soy) have definitely been altered to the western palette, and more closely resemble Chinese stir fry with the thick “brown” sauce of vague sweetness. Sigh.

Anyway yes, do try, but bring a Filipino friend if you have one (or else bring me!! :-) ) to tell you if what comes out is the real thing.

PS: Any other Filipino restaurant suggestions.
