My favorite Malaysian restaurant by far is the C&R Cafe and Restaurant on Ruper Court on the edge of Chinatown. The food is good (albeit a bit basic), cheap, portions are good, and the service is very fast. The chendol (green milkshake drink with cocoanut milk and sweet green “noodles” is delicious) is a great dessert-drink, but save room also for the various noodle and rice dishes. The house special seafood fried rice is one of my faves (lightly fried rice in the middle of a bowl of random seafood, topped with a fried egg) as is the rojak (slivers of green mango or papaya with shrimp paste--my description doesnt give it justice, but it is an interesting blend of flavors that works). A Malaysian friend who lives in Canada was visiting me in London and I took him and his partner to C&R, and he was raving about how he hadn’t had such authentic Malaysian food since he left home 15 years ago!
