Global gastronomy without leaving London
We want to see if it's possible to eat around the globe without leaving the comfort of the capital. So everyone knows the best places once we 'reach' India, China and Mexico but what about Egypt, Iceland, Mongolia, new Zealand and all the others? Let's see if we can create a list of all 200 or so (?) culinary options...and then we can go out and sample them all!
Egyptian Restaurants

There are very few typical Egyptian restaurants that I know of in London - I’ve been looking for a very long time too!
The only one that I have managed to find is called Abu Ali & it is just off Gloucester Place, NW1.
It’s a small cramped place with more of a cafe type feel than a restaurant feel. It’s more than made up for with the excellent dishes though. The food is very well prepared with difficult dishes like mah’shee (stuffed vegetables) expertly done. They also do ‘proper Egyptian’ felafel with broadbeans instead of chickpeas, which I have been unable to find outside of Egypt! If you have any particular requests they seem happy to oblige.
I’d love to know of any other Egyptian restaurants that anyone may have encountered, I lived in Egypt for 4 years & am getting quite nostalgic for lots of dishes that to be quite frank are beyond my culinary skills!
