About Us

Qype, Europe's largest user-generated local reviews site, was founded in Hamburg in 2006. Internet entrepreneur Stephan Uhrenbacher was trying to find a nursery for his son, and realised the value of personal recommendations. So Qype was founded: a community where people could share their experiences and give feedback on the consumer decisions they make every day.

With 22 million visits per month (April 2011), our real reviews by real people with real opinions are helping users worldwide to make those decisions both at home and on the go, using the Qype smartphone app. Whether you need a plumber you can trust, a great local restaurant or some tips for a mini break abroad, Qype's international community can help.

With an active community of Qypers who review and recommend new places every day, it’s also an increasingly important network for businesses to promote themselves and manage their online reputation. Qype allows them to interact with their customers and take control of what’s being said about their business online.

Technology from the company Google Analytics (www.google.com/analytics) is used on this website to collate and store data anonymously for marketing and optimisation purposes. These data is used to create pseudonym user profiles. To this end, cookies may be used to collate and store data in a solely anonymous form. The data will not be used to identify any visitor to this website and will not be kept with information about the bearer of the pseudonym. The data collation and storage can be vetoed at any time with effect for the present and the future.

2. Facebook

Qype uses a social plug-in from Facebook to run the Like button. This plug-in is run by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA.

The plug-in can be identified by the Facebook logo. Whenever a Qype page containing the Like button is accessed, the browser will establish a connection to a server from Facebook. The social plug-in is sent to the browser, and then is shown within the Qype page. Qype has no direct influence on the content of the plug-in.

Facebook can identify when Qype’s pages are accessed only if the user is both registered with Qype and logged into Facebook. When the Like button is clicked, the information is transmitted to and processed by Facebook.
