Qype Community Guidelines
In a nutshell:
We're a community of people who want to get more out of their city. We want to explore our local area, share our ideas and thoughts and talk to other people who are passionate about the places they live, work and play. As we are a community it's up to everyone to make sure Qype remains a pleasant, safe and fun place to visit, so to help you do that we've put together a few guidelines that should help you understand what it means to be a Qyper. Please read the following carefully and remember that your use of Qype is subject to these Guidelines as well as our Terms & Conditions.
Most importantly: Be nice!
Just like your city itself Qype is bursting at the seams with many different types of people and every one of those people has the right to feel comfortable and happy when they come to visit. Remember that not everyone is going to have the same opinions and viewpoints as you (if they did there wouldn't be any need for Qype), and so when you're chatting and talking to other Qypers please be polite and respectful of them and their views. A good rule to remember is 'if you wouldn't say it to their face, don't say it to them on Qype'.
Write from the heart:
Qype is a place for you to tell people what you think of your local area, so we want to hear your stories, experiences and opinions. What we don't want is for you to try and pass other people's views off as your own. Remember to use your own words and to respect all the relevant laws (especially copyright and trademark laws).
Don't leave your manners at the door
Offensive and abusive content won't be tolerated and the same goes for falsely attacking or defaming any of the businesses or people featured on Qype. Give us your opinion by all means but make it an accurate and measured opinion otherwise we'll have to have words!
If we receive a complaint about you
We trust you to play nice but if someone does contact us and alerts us to behavior which is offensive, abusive, illegal, or in any way a breach of our Terms & Conditions or these Guidelines then we will take action and that could mean your content is removed and your account could be suspended or even terminated. You have been warned!
If you're a business owner
Just because you run/own/work for one of the businesses featured on Qype doesn't mean you can't review it, but let's not get carried away. Qype is a place for balanced and accurate appraisals so exaggeration or flat out lying just isn't going to cut it. And please be sure to clearly identify yourself as the owner/manager/employee etc of the business by claiming it when you write the review, otherwise you're being misleading and we'll be forced to take action. Remember: an honest view is better than no review at all.
P.S. This rule doesn't just apply to Reviews, the same goes for comments, discussion board posts and all the other spaces on Qype where you can add content.
So, to sum up...
Do: Be nice. Politeness, friendliness and respect go a long way here at Qype.
Don't: Be a pain. Venting, pointless arguing or personal attacks are all against these Guidelines and the easiest ways to lose friends quickly.
Do: Let us know if you spot anyone acting up. If you see something you view as offensive or abusive, or something that you think might be against the law then use the 'report abuse' button to let us know about it.
Don't: Get involved in fights or arguments. Just take a deep breath, count to ten and then use the 'report abuse' functionality to contact us and outline the problem you're having. We're not fans of those people who start arguments just for the fun of it, so if you don't rise to the bait then it makes Qype a nicer place to be.
Do: Remember you're responsible for all the material you upload to Qype. That means reviews, photos, comments, message board posts...everything. If you do something wrong you've only got yourself to blame.
Don't: Forget that everything you upload can be seen by anyone who looks for it. So be mindful of your own privacy and be respectful of other people's sensibilities. Always remember that every single review, comment, you add to Qype is public and will remain online indefinitely provided it is within our Terms and Conditions.
Do: Err on the side of caution. In other words, if in doubt don't do it. As well as these community guidelines we have a FAQ section that should answer most of your questions. There's also our Terms & Conditions which contains a lot of longwinded legal things regarding what you can and can't do on Qype, but this should be the next place you look if you're still stuck for information.
Don't: Be shy about getting in touch. If you're still in need of answers (not the metaphysical 'meaning of life' stuff, but anything to do with Qype) then you can email our Community Team on feedback@qype.co.uk and we’ll do our best to solve any problems.
Thanks for checking out the Qype Community Guidelines. Now go enjoy Qype!
