I recently had the pleasure of taking the train from Geneva to Milan to see this city in the last months of the summer and enjoy some of its many cultural delights. I stayed in the Marriott which is a little far out from the main town but is conveniently located near the underground. The first day I decided to visit the science museum which I would suggest unless you have young children I would skip this place as it really is like any other science museum but extremley difficult to navigate and over priced. Instead spend more time at the Modern Art museum which is truly delightful place to spend an hour or two set in a spectacular building almost a work of art itself. I ended day one with dinner at La Rinascente department store on the top of the building with a delicious mozarella menu with a view of the piazza Duomo Cathedral.
Day two I decide to take the trip up to the roof of the Duomo Cathedral and enjoy its many spectacular views, this cathedral is a feast for the eyes and many people eat lunch on its many angled roofs to enjoy ist many statues and breathtaking views. After this I eat lunch at the Italian restaurant (yes arent they all?) named Doggano and apart from the surly waiter in fact the food and wine was pretty good. I next hit the shops enjoying its many boutiques that surround the cathedral from La Rinascente many floors of fashion beauty and homeware to Zara and Hennes-beware though Italy does not offer refunds if you change your mind or even if the goods are damaged, I had a difficult time getting my money back in Zara since the coat I bought was covered in pen marks and it was only after visiting two stores to exchange it only to discover that all the coats were damaged that they agreed to refund. Also I recomend you take time to enjoy the home of Martini at the Zucca bar on the left of the cathedral and enjoy its original design while you take a drink at the bar and enjoy its many delicious free snacks. Finally on day three after a little more shopping I take a lunch stop at Zucca and sit in the galleria to people watch for a while-then before heading home I discover an English pub called oddly English Pub and watch a little sport with a pint of the black stuff before heading to the station to get my train home. A few watch outs though if you are female be prepared that Italian men are not afraid to approach you in the street and ask you for a date and can be quite persistant, and also beware of the many vendors in the piazza who can be quite annoying when they keep trying to sell you some ridiculous toy or bracelet which they claim is free until you take it of course! They are so adept at tying these damn things on so quickly before you know it you have paid two euros for a childs friendship bracelet which is impossible to remove. Anyway enjoy Milan and its many wonderful places!
