We were two of the first people to stay here after it had been renovated so we received supreme attention and were invited to a number of functions to find out our approval. (Guinea pigs !)

It is a very nice hotel and it has a swimming pool on the roof plus bars and eating area.

In the downstairs retaurants we had some great meals, We would definitely return !!

Today is my birthday and the staff member surprised us by giving us a dessert and played a happy bday song which was really surprising and was a great pleasure eating there. This was my first experience in this restaurant and certainly won’t be the last. Thanks for all the service.

5 Points out of 5

The citadel in Victoria, Gozo, is a place that has to be experienced to be believed. The baroque cathedral is amazing in itself, but walking around the citadel is like travelling in time – you can really lose yourself whilst strolling around on the battlements or exploring the many little shops inside the citadel. Don’t miss this!

I wouldn’t call this beach a “beach” its more like some sand next to the water, but that Gozo i guess ;)
For dinner there are a few little restaurants, most of them nothing spezial. One, Chez Pierre, was quite ok, but not cheep.
I just stayed here coz my diving base was here – for everything else: take your car to Victoria. Unfortunately there are no busses at night!

Manoel Theatre (Valletta, by dmj1962)

4 Points out of 5

The Manoel Theatre is one of Europe’s oldest working theatres, and has a wonderful historic atmosphere, as well as excellent acoustics.

The theatre was constructed in 1731 and opened in 1732, funded personally by António Manoel de Vilhena, Grand Master of the Knights of Malta. The aim was to provide entertainment to keep the young knights of the order out of mischief, but also to provide ‘honest entertainment to the public’. The theatre still carries the motto “ad honestam populi oblectationem”.

The theatre has had a chequered history, as the opening of an opera house in 1866 provided competition and, between reverting to use as a theatre, the building had spells of being used as a doss house and cinema, as well as providing temporary shelter to families made homeless by bombing in the Second World War. However, the Opera House was destroyed in 1942; the Manoel was appropriated by the Maltese Government in 1956, and fully restored by 1960.

The historic interior is traditional in layout, with rows of boxes behind the main stalls, all decorated in a grand rococo style picked out in cream, blue and acres of gold leaf. Although it seats over 600, this is an intimate venue: two large water storage tanks built beneath it are said to give it its excellent acoustics.

It is now home to a wide variety of performances, from theatre, opera and concerts (by both professionals and amateur societies) to Christmas Pantomime and poetry recitals. There’s also a very good souvenir shop.

When you have a very busy “tourist day” this is a restaurant where you can end on a top note.
Staff is very friendly and professional.
The restaurant is very quite as well as inside as on the terrace.
The restaurant had such a privacy that you can eat without been disturbed by other restaurant visitors.
You have a very differentiated cart to chose from (also children and vegetarian).
A phone call is perhaps the best if your stay is not in the Marsascala.

British Hotel (Valletta, by Squaremind)

1 Points out of 5

We spent 4 nights in this hotel while visiting Valletta, and one thing you can’t complain about is the location. We had a stunning view of the harbour and the Three Cities.
And that’s about it really. The room we had hadn’t been even painted since the 80’s, the doors onto the terrace were a disgrace and the terrace itself was more a ledge, definitely oversold. Lighting was by neon strips and the furniture really did feel as though it had been fetched out of a skip. The sheets were clean. but the bottom one was too small and scrunched up every night so that we ended up on a disgustingly dirty mattress.
Everything is charged extra, including aircon and deposits are required. We were treated as though we were going to do a runner and asked to pay the day before we left. The rooms are really overpriced too.
The litany goes on! (I won’t even start on the breakfast…)
Avoid. Even if the view is amazing, you won’t want to be there to enjoy it.
