The upgrade to give you a room on a higher floor / afternoon snack & free drinks was worth the small additional charge.

My room, 29 floors up, is directly opposite the Petronas Towers and only a few hundred yards away.

Quite simple the most stunning night-time view of KL you could ask for – get up to the roof before midnight – they turn the lights off!

The swimming pool & bar on the roof was a haven to escape to, and very weird to be swimming while looking out on the Petronas Towers!

After a good breakfast, I set out for the Batu Caves – an amazing Hindu temple set in a huge cave at the top of 200+ lung bursting & personal sauna inducing steps, but it is worth it. Running the gauntlet of the highly-trained-pick-pocket-monkeys makes the climb doubly exciting!

Rasa Sayang Resort Penang (Georgetown, by SarahT)

5 Points out of 5

I was lucky enough to stay in 3 of the Shangri-La hotels in Malaysia on my honeymoon. The Rasa Sayang was my favourite: Beautiful location, gorgeous pool, stunning rooms, luxurious Spa, excellent restaurant and impeccable service. I can’t recommend it enough. Definitely the most romantic hotel I’ve ever been to.

Highlights were the ‘adults only’ pool (there’s a separate family one round the other side) with poolside service and a foot masseuse, the amazing couples treatment session in the Spa, the Wagyu beef and Nasi Lomak (for breakfast) in their restaurant ‘Ferenggi’ and the specially-drawn aromatic bath with champagne and chocolates on our balcony.

Expensive for Malaysian standards, but still one of the cheapest places in the world to experience 5* hotel treatment.

5 Points out of 5

Quite literally the best meal I’ve ever had in my life! Christmas day 2008 and I still remember what every one of the nine courses (ideas) tasted like.

The interior was beautiful, the service flawless, champagne delicious, wine (recommended by our sommelier) was perfect and the food was utterly, mouth-wateringly, divine.

The meal was on Christmas day but without a brussel sprout or turkey in sight…yet it still managed to be festive. Even the simple fresh rolls provided on the table were the best bread I’ve ever eaten. Highlights of the meal were the Wagyu beef, the pumpkin and cranberry soup (shaped in a perfect orb and it gently burst in the mouth with an explosion of flavour) and the ‘Christmas tree’ – a wooden tree with edible chocolate soil and candyfloss flowers. Incredible.

I want to go back to KL just so I can eat here again.

Once in a lifetime experience! A really must go, even if you are only on a stopover to Oz.
I had been to JB many times when in the Far East, but never experienced this standard, especially not in The Sky Hotel.
consider taking out a bank loan, if you haven’t got any savings!!!! but, hey it’s only money and you can’t take it with you.
Fabulous food, drinks and staff are soooooo polite.
The place is an absolute dream and cannot be faulted at all.
Top marks

Knock-out place and part of The Grand, which, while you’re there you may as well use. Great performances from the most unlikeliest of people. Prices are not for the faint-hearted, but you could earn yourself a drink or two if you sing well.
Luxurious surroundings and absolutlely stunning looking staff…….(that bit hasn’t changed over the years!!)
This all a bit of a distant memory now as we went here some months ago on what we called “Our Swan Song”
