Mediterraneo Chicken (Lima, by joecritical)

5 Points out of 5

Mediterraneo Chicken (MC) ist a little restaurant chain of pollerias, the peruvian chicken restaurants, that is established in Lima. There is a difference of quality between the branches. We tested two. The one discribed here and one at Larcomar, the big tourist meeting point near the pacific. If you have the chance to choose, avoid the ona at Larcomar: it is real fast food and served without love.

The branch at Alfredo Benavido ist also fast food but made with slowfood soul. It is more or less a real restaurant. In the evening you will find a lot of businesspeople taking their dinner over there, some tourist aswell and families.

We recommend to leave the menu away, just decide how many chickens you want to order (1/2 to 1/1 per person). It is a must! Very tasty an served by engaged and friendly staff.

A nice small, friendly, relaxed hostel. The beds are very comfortable and the dorms are not cramped. The internet and Wi-Fi is very fast. There's a well equipped kitchen and nice common area with big TV and lots of DVDs and satellite. The staff are very helpful.

The location is on the edge of Miraflores but close to the Rapid bus to the Centro district. The only downside was that it was a bit quiet with not many guests when I stayed.

They dont respond to mails..most of the time you have to wait like 2 months for an responding.

Changing of Host Family was not possible..even the host Family was steeling stuff from me... " always they said..the problems are not serious enough"

I felt such in a prison with AFS Peru!

They always made you under pressure..." if you dont follow the rules..we will send you home straight away"

I had the best times when i was without AFS!
They dont helped me with one problem that i had during the year!

Choose an other organization to go to Peru with!

5 Points out of 5

Possibly my favourite restaurant in the world, definitely in the top 3. Miles away from any touristy areas of Lima but worth the trip (we used one of those mini-buses you flag down and cram on). Seems to be out in an industrial area but is packed full of well dressed Peruvians.

The ceviche is truly amazing, from the standard white fish and prawns through to octopus, sea urchin and conches negras (a freshwater black clam) everything is as fresh as can be and packed with flavour. The little shots of ceviche liquid called leche de tigre are well worth a go too, a taste explosion that's meant to cure your hangover.

Expensive by Peru standards but cheap by Western ones. I believe it's only open for a couple of hours a day over lunch time and get there early as it fills up almost as soon as it opens.

5 Points out of 5

The El Pueblo hotel is designed in the style of a Peruvian highlands village. It provides the perfect setting for corporate events or leisure and rest while guests enjoy our ample facilities and full range of services. Located in Ate, vitarte in Lima, 45 minutes from the international airport from downtown Lima. Multiple use rooms, entertainment and gardens over 180,000 m2.

Immerse in the spirit of the incas in this luxury hotel high up in the Andes. Walk around the grounds and see the hummingbirds feeding, view the exotic plants.

Experience authentic Peruvian luxury at its best at this hotel.
I can recommend it as I stayed there last year.

3 Points out of 5

We had a couple of nights in Puno and booked this budget hostel place through a tour operator.
We to a nice welcome - the staff were very nice and tried to insist that they carried our heavy backpacks to our room! We received a hot cup of coca tea - I’m not sure whether it REALLY helps with altitude sickness, but it is nice and warming!

It is just away from the main street of restaurants and the Plaza de Armas and is very convenient for what we wanted to do in Puno.

The bathroom was pretty grotty, but that was the one downside of the place. The decor was otherwise pretty quirky and we quite liked it! We had read reviews saying that there wass a lot of noise from discos, but we didn’t really notice this.

Hostel Camiluz (Lima, by oldcrazy77)

4 Points out of 5

We booked this place through Furtour when we were in Lima - it came as part of a package that included the bus to Paracas, the Ballestas Islands trip, accomodation in Paracas and a night in Nazca and a flight over the Nazca lines.
We couldn’t find any reviews and had no idea what to expect!

I’d been to Nazca several years before and remember it as being fairly dark and slightly menacing at night as we arrived into the bus station (due to the touts - in reality it is probably fine). Our host picked us up from the airport and took us back to a quiet residential area, where the Hostel Camiluz was.
After staying in a basic hotel in Paracas, the very clean and extremely spacious room was great - as was the fantastic shower.
The owner dropped us into town (even though it wasn’t far away, so that was a nice touch) and gave us a map to orientate ourselves. We slept well as it was very quiet and the breakfast was very good in the morning.
Our bus to Arequipa wasn’t until the afternoon, but we didn’t have to check-out until he dropped us at the bus station.

I would recommend this pace to couples travelling on a modest budget but like nice private hostels.
Very nice chap - don’t be put-off by the lack of reviews!

3 Points out of 5

The room we had was right on the top floor, so traffic noise wasn’t the problem that it would have been lower down.

Whilst we weren’t expecting luxury, the room was really dated, very dark and a little chilly at night (only those that have been to Lima in the foggy season will ever believe that Lima can b cold at night!!) and the bath / shower was very small.
That said, it is convenient to the centre of Miraflores, 5 /10 minutes from the Cruz del Sur bus station, opposite a late night “Western style” supermarket and felt very secure. It overall offered fair value.

The best part of our stay was the excellent friendly and helpful staff (although the breakfast was very good as well!).
