This is how pubs should be. Decent range of very well-kept beers, great staff, comfortable laid-back atmosphere. It ticks all the boxes for terrific, traditional old skool pub and still manages to buzz with life. I love it. Best pub in Brighton.

This place is in the heart of Brighton’s North Laines, and sums up just what makes the area so special. Downstairs, a chaotic, rather bonkers collection of all sorts of collectible tat, antiques, vintage clothing and the occasional fantastic bargain.
Upstairs, a great photographic gallery called North Laine Photography which makes a point of fostering new talent as well as putting on classy exhibitions by established names. The gallery stocks prints, cards and framed pictures and does a special Brighton calendar every year which makes a good gift for any Brightonians you know who have moved away and still miss the old place.

A gorgeous little shop packed with a fantastic range of writing implements, colourful inks, journals, albums, notebooks, really special giftwrapping stuff, wacky cards and strange little offbeat items like party masks and alphabet stamps.
I come for Moleskine notebooks, old fashioned labels made of cardboard with string ties and pen nibs. But I always end up finding other things to buy as well.
Really useful for little gifts that are a bit different.

A real neighbourhood family newsagents which still does home deliveries of newspapers early in the morning (ours come at 7am) so you can read the paper before setting off for work.
A well stocked little corner shop with the usual basic food and drink, greetings cards, lottery tickets and a big range of cigarettes and loose tobacco.
Nice friendly service - and if you want a magazine or paper they don’t normally stock they’ll order it in for you. Open all hours!

Very nice small firm who come out to fix stuff like washing machines, arrive on time and do repairs that last for a reasonable price.
