Tesco metro - Edinburgh

Colinton Road, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, Scotland EH10 4NT

29-05-2009

This is a great little Tesco Metro that despite being small has a really good range of products. It is usually really busy partly because it is right on Holy corner a busy corner in Edinburgh and close to Napier University and close to where lots of students live. You can buy most of what you need from this Tesco so it is possible to do a shop here without having to venture further afield. Sometimes you have to queue as there are not many tills although there are self-serve tills as well as operator ones. its a great little Tesco to shop at

Sainsburys - Edinburgh

6 Lady Road, Cameron Toll Shopping Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland EH16 5PB

29-05-2009

This is a really big Sainsburys situated in the middle of the Cameron Toll Centre. As you would expect they have a massive range of food with a large selection of fresh, frozen and packeted items. There is a butcher, fishmongers, cheese, and bakery sections. They also sell a wide range of clothing for men, women and children along with footwear. There is also a selection of homeware including kitchen utensils, bedding and cushions. Its a great shop to get all your food needs.

Margiotta, Marchmont Road - Edinburgh

102-104 Marchmont Road, Marchmont, Edinburgh, Scotland EH9 1BG

29-05-2009

This is a great little corner shop where you can buy lots of things. The shop is situated on Marchmont Road and is very popular with students in the area. They sell lovely fresh baguettes which if you go early in the day they are still warm. They also sell ice-cream which is lovely on a hot day. They have a good stock of fresh and packet food. There is a small frozen section but this is quite limited. Its a great place to pop in for anything that you have run out of as well as buying your daily newspapers.

Poundland - Edinburgh

73 St James Shoppig Centre, LeithStreet, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3SS

29-05-2009

This is a great shop in the St James centre where everything is a pound. They have a great selection of products from toiletries including shampoo and toothbrushes, gardening tools and plants, toys, food, craft materials, party accessories and kitchen equipment. The store gets really busy at weekends and sometimes you have to queue for a while at the tills. Its amazing just what you can buy for a pound so its worth going for a browse and pick up some bargains.

Klondyke Garden Centre - Edinburgh

30 Mortonhall Gate, Edinburgh, Scotland EH16 6TJ

29-05-2009

This is a nice garden centre on the outskirts of Edinburgh on the south side of town. The garden centre has a cafe where you can get snacks and drinks. It has a wide range of plants including trees and flowers. The plants are set out well and there is a really good range. They also sell garden accessories and gifts. You can join the gardening club for the cost of £10 and receive a £5 gift voucher, 10% of all plant purchases and free tea and coffee every month. its well worth doing if you buy lots of plants.

Royal Infirmary Edinburgh - Edinburgh

51 Little France Crescent, Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH16 4SA

29-05-2009

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is somewhere you would probably rather not visit unless you have too. It is situated on the site at Little France on the South side of Edinburgh. There is a good bus service which goes right in front of the hospital and buses run regularly throughout the day. THere is also lots of parking but it is expensive to park. The hospital itself is very large with wards and outpatients covering most specialities. There is also an A&E department for emergencies. The entrance is large with a variety of shops, cash machines and cafes.

Royal Hospital For Sick Children - Edinburgh

9 Sciennes Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH9 1LF

29-05-2009

The Royal Hospital for Sick Children is somewhere you hope you never have to visit but if you do you can be sure your child will receive the best of attention with highly qualified and specialised staff. The hospital is on the South side of Edinburgh not far from the Meadows although will be moving to a new site at Little France next to the royal infirmary in a few years time. The hospital has various wards for different specialities and has its own Accident and Emergency.

Maid of the Forth - Edinburgh

Hawes Pier, South Queensferry, Edinburgh, Scotland EH30 9TB

28-05-2009

The Maid of the Forth is a boat which sails from Hawes Pier in South Queensferry out into the river forth. The boat has an indoor seating area but if the weather is nice I recommend going out and up onto the top open air deck to really enjoy the experience. The boat has a sailing programme and goes to different places on different days. You can just sail up the river or you can get a trip that visits Inchcolm Island. They also have jazz cruises where you can listen to the band whilst you sail.

Vegas in the Gardens - Edinburgh

Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 3AA

28-05-2009

Princes Street Gardens is a lovely park area which stretches along the length of Princes Street. The gardens change throughout the year and host many different events the main one probably being the Winter Wonderland at Christmas time where there is an ice skating rink, ferris wheel and a German market. The gardens have lots of park benches where you can sit and watch the world go by but in summer many people just sit on the grass and enjoy the sunny weather.

Scott Monument - Edinburgh

East Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 2EJ

28-05-2009

The Scott Monument is a monument dedicated to Sir Walter Scott. The monument is a huge tall monument rising up from Princes Street Gardens. For a small fee you can have the priviledge of climbing 287 steps to reach the top. Along the way you can stop to admire the view from the viewing platforms whilst catching your breath. It’s a great way of seeing Edinburgh and also being able to say you have climbed to the top.
