Top quality Chinese food any time of the day, but it’s my favourite for dim sum. If you’re going at the weekend be prepared for a long-ish wait but it’s definitely worth it. An extensive menu, always prepared to an excellent standard, I keep coming back to Royal China again and again.

Tucked away just off the Highbury & Islington end of Upper Street, Public House is a rather well kept secret. We went on a Thursday night and it was quieter than we would have expected but there was still a buzz of atmosphere. From among the eclectic mix of furniture we plonked ourselves down on the chesterfield sofa, and had a cosy corner of the candle-lit room to ourselves. We chose a few small plates from the menu (lamb skewers, wedges and potted venison) and washed them down with a cocktail and glass of wine from the excellent, extensive wine list. Everything was prepared to a superb standard, and the home made chilli ginger beer deserves a special mention - delicious! The service was attentive, friendly and made us feel very well looked after. We crossed London to visit Public House on a friend’s recommendation and it was well worth it, we’ll be back soon.

Hard to find but well worth it - a tiny cafe/bar buzzing with life and understated cool. Went in for a couple of drinks on a Saturday night. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the there was plenty of space to relax and chat with friends.

This is an old favourite of mine - it’s not a creperie in the French sense, they treat their pancakes more like a pizza: big pancake base served flat with a wide choice of different toppings. I’m always surprised at how filling the pancakes are, they really are huge. They have also added a range of delicious milkshakes to the menu. Great every time and I can’t wait for my next visit! The Monday Madness offer (any pancake for £5) is great and popular, too, so it’s one of the few places I know that has a buzzy atmosphere on a Monday.

Enjoyed a very leisurely long lunch here on Friday afternoon. It was surprisingly busy during the whole afternoon, all the nearby offices were obviously in the Christmas mood. Despite this the noise and music never got in the way of our conversation. The menu is extensive with something to satisfy most tastes, but we kept it simple with a sandwich and salad. The portions were generous, and the food well prepared. Nothing gourmet, but pretty much exactly what you’d expect from a good brasserie-style place. The service was very good, friendly, efficient and attentive.
