Wendover Peking Restaurant - Wendover
4-6 High Street, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire HP22 6EA

I think place has won awards in the past for being a top restaurant, and it still is very popular. Inside it is very plush, clean and well laid out and you can also see in to the entire restaurant seating area from the road as you drive by. Nothing to hide and everything on show. The food is excellent and I strongly recommend the sweet and sour chicken with noodles. Service is fast and just when you want it (are they mind readers?). Excellent prices as well and they also do a great and popular take away service.

This is located in the Wendover Woods near the camp at Halton. Basically it is a sort of ropes course with swings and rope slides high up in the trees around the main car park for the woods. At first I wasn’t sure what it was because it does cover quite a large area. When I went on it with friends, it was very tiring and exhilarating, but it was immense fun. It is quite expensive though, especially if you want to take a family on it. But it is really fun and the kids will love it.
China China - Halton

Unless you knew where this place was you wouldn’t normally find it. It is on the Tring Road out of Aylesbury near to the Royal Air Force camp at Halton. It is also back off the road so you probably drive by it at first if you didn’t notice the big yellow sign. It is a take away specialising in Cantonese style food. The Royal Air Force people seem to use it when they are walking back to camp. Personally when I tried it after I wanted something different I thought the food was a little greasy and not really that tasty. I have had better.
Halton Camp Store - Halton Camp
Rowborough Road, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire HP22 5PL

This place is very popular and is right next to the Royal Air Force camp at Halton. It is basically a convenience store of sorts that sells loads of different items. A little more expensive than the Tesco Express a mile down the road, but you do have the convenience here of also being able to get a parking slot outside. It also has a small post office next door which is ideal if you need to post something and can’t find a parking place near the main post office in nearby Wendover.
Tesco Express - Wendover

I used to find it a nause if I only needed a few things and had to drive to the big Tescos in Aylesbury to get it. Now they have opened up these Tesco Express stores in the communities and they are very convenient for the smaller items like milk, bread and butter. What surprised me to discover was that their prices are slightly higher than their main stores for the same items. Therefore not a good place to do your weekly shopping at. Opening times are also longer than their main stores. So I suppose with the higher prices you ar4e paying for the extra hours and convenience.

I’ve used these guys a few times now around Aylesbury and they are first class operators. They are only a small outfit and seem to cover Aylesbury and all of the surrounding areas very well. The real good thing I find is that when you phone them up they can give you the cost of your journey over the phone,so no big cost shocks when you use them. Also when they arrive, they will ring you again if you’re not standing outside to say they are there. Above all, they are the cheapest taxi firm I’ve found in Aylesbury.
Wilkinson - Oxford
Templers Sq Shopping Centre, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 4AQ

This place is a little way out of the city centre (still within walking distance though) and can be difficult to find if you don’t know where to go. If you’ve never been to a Wilkinsons before, it is basically a bit of a bargain shop. They sell loads of toiletry type items, but you may find that the main supermarkets may be slightly cheaper. Where Wilkinsons really does well is in the home ware, kitchenware and diy sections where prices are really cheap. My OH buys all of his diy screws, nails and fixtures from here because they are so much cheaper than the likes of B&Q and Homebase.
Le Bistro - Wendover
4 Pound Street, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire HP22 6EJ

Some friends took us here for a meal out one night. It is in a small town called Wendover just outside of Aylesbury and was one of the restaurants featured on the Raymond Blanc TV show The Restaurant. It is only a small place, but it is very popular, and not just with the locals. The menu choices are great and their seems to be more emphasis placed on presentation rather than on super large portions, but that is what I like. The staff are friendly and the whole place seems to have a buzz about it when it is full. Prices are also reasonable.
Martins - Aylesbury

This place is like a mini W H Smith with the number of different magazines and papers that it sells. The location normally means that it is very popular with all of the locals, especially at weekends when everyone wants to take the dog for a walk and pop in to get the paper. There always seems to be a dog or 2 outside waiting for their owner to return. Beyond the papers and magazines, they also sell some basic items like milk and bread and they also do sell some very basic and cheap toys if you’re ever stuck for a quick birthday present.

This is a toy shop with a difference because rather than selling the really cheap plasticy type toys that you can find everywhere else in any other toy shop, this place sells the more unusual and unique toys, often well made or totally made out of wood. I always tend to go here to get stocking fillers for the kids because the toys are more like gadgets and are very cheap for what they are. Also worth just going in to get those Secret Santa presents for the adults as well.
