Plumbers Arms - Victoria

Traditional, smallish London pub in an area of Belgravia that seems pretty quiet. Lots of Bentleys with personalised number plates around. Lunchtime clientele reflects this – punters talking with educated rather than estuary accents!

Falcondale Mansion Hotel

Falcondale Drive, SA48 7RX Lampeter, Ceredigion

A fabulous hotel in West Wales.

It’s an old country house, with about twenty bedrooms. Sometimes places like this can be a bit stuffy and posey – but this one is definitely not.

The restaurant has 2 AA rosettes and a 3 course dinner is £38!!!! Amazing quality, they served up one of the best fillet steaks I have ever eaten. All locally sourced Welsh meat and produce.

The cost of staying is not over the top either.

The gardens and grounds of the hotel are quite stunning as well.

Thoroughly recommended.

Sporting venues simply do not get better than this.
Slap bang in the city centre, great atmosphere all around the ground with the hundreds of watering holes around the place.
Great atmosphere inside even when not a sell-out.
A day out here for a Wales home game is always a memorable experience.

Highly impressive new style Currys megastore. Loads of electrical and tech goodies to oggle over!

Gotta be the slowest post office in the world.
14 people in the queue, 1 till working.
20 mins to send one parcel.
Great.

A classic tapas bar and restaurant.
The Argentinian beef really is something else.
I have never had a steak so good, twice from the same restaurant. Great price too.

The Inn at Inverbeg - Glasgow

Luss, Loch Lomond, Glasgow, Scotland G83 8PD

A good place to stay if you fancy a short break on the banks of Loch Lomond, and not too far North is travelling from the South.

If you can, stay in the Beach Hose rooms - located a short walk from the main hotel. They are on the banks of Loch Lomond itself with great views. Large size suites with all mod cons and fairly well furnished.

The restaurant / bar in the main hotel is called Mr C's Fish and Whisky bar. 200 odd whiskies, usual beers and lagers, plus lots of fresh fish. It was awarded AA pub of the year for Scotland 2009 - 2010.

I spoilt my time there by eating deep fried haggis in batter - gave me full-on food poisining for a week! Not a pleasant experience. Avoid this and stick to the fish / meat and you should be OK.

Overall I wont downgrade it too much as a result of this, because of its great location and loads of good hikes around the area.

maraemilia I live in Piemonte, a region in northwest, and an ancient typical poor food is "fritto misto piemontese", fritto misto is generally fried fish, but here there isn't sea... we have lamb, pork and so use their lung, brain, liver, testicles... never touched in my life!

Bobstercat Wow sounds horrible - a bit like Haggis!!!!

Old Barge - Hertford

I blow hot and cold over the Old Barge.
In theory when you look at the location alone it should be 5 stars.
But there is something about it that brings it down. Yes, there's lots of beer and real ale on tap as described by others below. Yes, it's next to the river in hertford.
But it's a weird shape, long and thin. In the evenings you walk in and it feels packed - get halfway to the back and it feels empty.
On hot summer afternoons when it should be at it's best it can be like a kids playground outside - toddlers and teenagers showing off their acne covered skinny muscle-less frames.
Hmmmmm....... So 5 stars for location, real ale etc but the other things bring it down to a 3.

The busiest petrol station for miles around.
But it's not only that - it's a great little corner shop too.
Fags, sweets, tea, coffee, milk, bread, papers, bog roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, greeting cards for when you've forgotten a birthday and are on the way to the party...... It's a life saver at times. And the staff are really friendly too.

A pukka back street locals only type of place.
If you want atmosphere, ambience and a roaring social scene - you ain't gonna find it in here.
