Café Rouge - Spinningfields - Manchester
Unit B3/4 Left Bank, Manchester, Greater Manchester M3 3AN
12-04-2011
It all looks nice enough - location certainly! However, I always have reservations about bar/restaurants - especially ones that want to charge restaurant prices! We had Tesco vouchers to be spent in Cafe Rouge so we tired this place out. Had we have not been surrendering vouchers / there would have been a serious complaint! We stopped to eat / despite being told that on a Monday eve they couldn't offer half the menu. (Should have known better then.. w.end left-overs?)
Despite the place being empty - we ordered a starter (to share). But it was a whole hour later - after entering that our Mains arrived. I had Bouef Bourginion and paying £14 I was expecting something! 3 pieces of meat in a gravy that had not seen much wine! A Potatoe burnt square - which was actually so on the bottom! (otherwise described as Dauphinoise! A few green beans.. pretty miserable. My partner had a Chicken salad - because of the lack of available choice.
The Gascogne Red - we suffered a bottle of - after it hit the nose / no taste of merit (nose fine!) But again £16! Its a 2/3 euro bottle en france..
Yes you may have guessed francophiles & in that spoilt with former full bowls of Bouef Bourginion and plenty of bread on the table to mop up the sauce (made with wine!) I would not pay £2 to have bread put on a table - that has the audacity to describe itself as a french brasserie.
Sorry but there is a £10 Voucher here left over... for anyone who wants it!
La Cigale - Nantes City Center
4 Place Graslin, 44000 Nantes

This really is a classic brasserie and delivers - faultless. If you go to the language tab & change it to french - you will see the MANY french reviews all glowing! A truely french experience to eat here - but BOOK not to be disappointed. By the way - it is not expensive & since the french Gov. wrote off 5% of Vat on restaurants /whilst many restaurants have not lowered prices/ they have adjusted their prices..
Dominos Pizza - Chester
Black Diamond Street, Chester, Cheshire CH1 3EX

You order / the deliver! You know what to expect… Pizzas are never good unless they are resh to a table.. Once placed in a box - well ! But they do fill a hole.. & remember no need to buy the hse wine!
Donato & Sandro - Chester
121 Brook Street, Chester, Cheshire CH1 3DU

We have popped into this restaurant over the years & never really come out totally satisfied. Pizza is the best option. But often let down by floor staff!
Frogg Manor Hotel - Chester
Barnhill Broxton, Chester, Cheshire CH3 9JH

Over rated / over priced / We guess much of whats on offer in straight from the Cheshire freezer. It used to be good some time past.. but standards have slipped!
Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor(formerly The Arkle) - Chester
56-58 Eastgate Street, Chester, Cheshire CH1 1LT
02-01-2009
The best way to enjoy the Arkle is simply to go in there for coffee & have the door opened for you into part of the Grosvenor Estate! It is a nice place to pay silly prices for coffee even - but who cares!
St Mary's Church, Bourne Street - Chelsea
30 Bourne Street, Chelsea, London SW1W 8JJ

I have been to this church on a number of occasions. Yes very High & Ritualistic worship - all very well done etc. But sadly lacking alongside that; with a distinct welcome. I have also in the past been with friends - members of the congregation - now no longer communicants - simply because of its lacking a sense of communion/ family.. So sad
The Chelsea Bun - Chelsea
9 Lamont Road, Limerston Street, , London SW10 0HP
01-07-2008
The Chelsea Bun - is a very well known place - for those in the know! Well worth every penny spent ! Generous portions.. But hey do ask for what you want. If I want well done bacon - I ask for it & expect to therefore get it!
Well worth seeking out!
Telford's Warehouse - Chester
Tower Wharf, Raymond Street, Chester, Cheshire CH1 4EZ

Telfords is quite special. Location etc.. beautiful in the summer. They also host a great number of concerts.

We have known this restaurant (thankfully now in the same hands) for many years. It is always good & not expensive. You certainly get what you pay for.
