Hotel La Tour - Birmingham

Incredibly well placed hotel that makes you feel just a little but decadent. The decor is luscious and the food/drinks are top notch. Even the standard rooms are spacious and stylish. The only problem (besides being a touch on the pricey side) is the bathrooms. The showers have been designed in a way that the water trickles down the shower screen lip and floods the bathroom and leaks out into the bedroom. It's a shame because it really lets the place down - spending half an hour mopping up water isn't my idea of fun times!! Staff must know about the fault because despite staying for 4 nights, they said 'ok' and promptly ignored me.

Not as impressive as other Malmaisons but still nice enough. Friendly staff and comfortable rooms if a little dark… Really rather ‘porn palace’. The continental breakfast delivered to your room is delicious. Its nice enough, but to be honest, I’ve stayed at nicer places that have been cheaper. Very nice toiletries in the room!

Lovely place! All open fires, good food, nice wine and decent ales! The staff are so helpful and friendly. Bedrooms are a touch small but the place is old so what you lose on space you gain in fab food and atmosphere. The rooms are also decorated very nicely so it’s tradition meets contemporary. Nice place to stay, but Moreton is tiny and pubs is all you gets!!! :)

Really nice location, but I can’t help feeling that it’s a bit lacking in atmosphere… Probably because it’s a chain and needs to live up to the ‘look and feel’ but it makes it one of those stop off places before you move to the next bar…

Went here just before Christmas and got a nice upgrade. Lovely hotel, nice rooms that are well equipped and comfortable! I do have one teeny bugbare… Queen sized beds that are actually two beds zipped together that haven’t been protected by a decent mattress topper makes for a rather uncomfortable night! Great location, but when I asked for coffee, got told that the coffee shop over the road was good. Bit surprised! All in all very nice and good value for money!

Not impressed with the food here! Tasted like Homepride cook-in sauce with extra chilli powder stirred in… Unreasonably priced for the location, surroundings and taste! Gutted really cos there’s a perfectly good Chinese takeaway round the corner! Lesson learnt…

Incredibly friendly owner… Made my party of 15 feel very welcome. The draft ales were good (ubu), wine was a good selection and the food was great. I will say that if they say that something is spicy or contains chilli, they really mean it!

Great country pub with nice atmosphere for anyone who needs a little escape from the confines of Staverton Park if they’re on an extended conference or training session!

Yum yummety yum! I liked it here! I was ready to not enjoy what was on offer because of the dodgy laminated menus, but I was very pleasantly surprised! Don’t expect miracles from the desserts because they’re mainly your bog-standard frozen jobs although my friend had a peculiar green pancake that she loved! Even the house red wasn’t bad!

Horrendous. Stinks of chlorine, rooms that sleep 8 people but have no storage. It’s sticky and sweaty because of the swimming pool being part of the complex and the elevator pirate tune makes you want to pull your own ears off.

Food is shocking and you’ve got no chance of a decent cup of coffee. Oh… And they use cheap baked beans for their catering. Urgh!

I used this hotel for a conference catering for about 180 people. The plenary room was a bit on the small side and access for AV rig was a bit of a kerfuffle! But… The bulk catering was good and the staff very helpful.

The Italian restaurant on site was very good… Food couldn’t really be faulted!

But on to my real bugbear about this place. The rooms are smallish, but that’s okay because they’re clean and well presented. HOWEVER… The beds are on the skew! I’m guessing that it’s because of the space issue, they’ve angled the beds in what they may think is a funky way to allow them not to be pressed up against a wall, but it is totally off-putting for anyone with the slightest bit of OCD! I didn’t get a wink of sleep! And seriously… It’s built in that way – there’s no shifting it! Very disturbing!

Okay – can’t not mention the wine angels. Very good, very impressive but to be honest, after an hour they just have a glazed, bored look on their faces. Shame really!
