A rather grand looking hotel on entry and decorated elegantly in reds and blacks. The room didn't really live up to reputation though I'm afraid - it was rather small and although fairly smart, looked like it had seen better days. It was also incredibly noisy, both from outside street sounds (better glazing required!!) and also inside too (I think the plumbing needed attention!)
To give a fair review, I'd say that we did enjoy our stay - we ate in the restaurant which was quite nice, and the whole thing was quite relaxing. The shower was excellent and rooms were warm and cosy. The location of the hotel is good for exploring Manchester. They do decent deals, so it's actually not that expensive to stay there - on a weekend it's probably not even that much more than an Ibis if you book at the right time. However if you're expecting 'luxury' you may be disappointed. It's nice, but not fantastic.

Un hotel de aspecto grandioso nada más entrar, decorado elegantemente en negro y rojo. El cuarto no estaba a la altura de todos modos, era más bien pequeño y aunque algo elegante, parecía haber pasado sus mejores tiempos. También era muy ruidoso, tanto por la calle (¡hacen falta mejores ventanas!) como por el interior (¡creo que hay que revisar las cañerías!). Para dar una opinión justa, creo que disfrutamos nuestra estancia, comimos en el restaurante, que está muy bien, y todo fue muy relajante. La ducha era excelente y las habitaciones eran acogedoras y hogareñas. La ubicación del hotel es buena para explorar Manchester. Tienen ofertas decentes, así que no es tan caro quedarse, en fin de semana probablemente no sea mucho más que un Ibis si reservas con tiempo. De todos modos, si esperas lujo, puede que te decepcione. Está bien, pero no es fantástico.

Un hôtel plutôt beau à l'entrée et décoré élégamment en noir et rouge. La chambre cependant ne répondait pas vraiment aux attentes suscitées par la réputation de l'endroit ( elle était plutôt petite et bien que plutôt chic, elle était un peu passée). C'était aussi incroyablement bruyant, de la rue à l'extérieur (il faudrait de meilleures fenêtres!!), comme de l'intérieur (il me semble que la plomberie aurait mérité d'être révisée!). Pour être juste, je dirais que nous avons apprécié notre séjour- nous avons diné au restaurant qui était plutôt agréable, et l'ensemble était plutôt relaxant. La douche était très bien et les chambres chaleureuses et accueillantes. La situation de l'hôtel est un bon point de départ pour explorer Manchester. Ils font de bonnes offres, ce qui fait que le séjour ne revient finalement pas si cher- pour un weekend c'est probablement pas plus cher qu'un Ibis si vous réservez au bon moment. En revanche, si vous vous attendez à du luxe, vous risquez d'être déçus. C'est bien mais pas fantastique.

We loved this restaurant so much that we went twice in a week! A really friendly, yet stylish looking restaurant just on the outskirts of the town, this place seems to be frequented by Italians and tourists alike, and when you've tasted the food, you can tell why. I had probably the best meal I had all week here - lamb baked with olive oil and rosemary, just so succulent and unctous that even now my mouth waters when I think about it. Also on the table was a massive 1kg T-Bone Bistecca Fiorentina: really tender and pink and only just managed between two hearty appetites. I had a taste and it melted in the mouth, just like the lamb.
Desserts, too were well worth having. The tiramisu was lovely but my personal favourite was the semifreddo.
And the icing on the cake? The delicious wine that was, ridiculously, only (I think) 7 euros per bottle. Half bottles were just 4 euros. Amazing.

Un bon endroit pour le déjeuner sur la place principale de la ville. C'est une grande bruschetta (une spécialité au - "Lard - est fortement recommandé, il est fondamentalement gras sur le pain, mais il a un goût étonnant). Ils ont aussi une grande sélection de vins et quelques plats a partagé pour le midi. Nous y sommes allés deux fois en une semaine et l'aurait pris en considération pour le repas du soir, mais bizarrement pour un bar à vin il semblait fermer à environ 21 heures ...? Je présume qu'il ouvre plus tard dans les mois d'été.

A great place for lunch just on the main square in the town. It has great bruschetta (a speciality one - 'Lardo' - comes highly recommended, it's basically fat on bread but it tastes amazing). They also have a great selection of wines and some good platters for sharing at lunch. We went twice in a week and would have considered it for an evening meal but weirdly for a wine bar it seemed to shut at about 9pm...? I'm assuming it opens later in the summer months.

We went to this restaurant on our second day in Italy with the intention of having a long, lazy four course lunch. We weren't disappointed, but we sadly only managed three courses and had to skip an evening meal (substituting it with wine, of course...)

It's fairly fancy looking inside, with stylish decor and crisp white tablecloths, but despite this, has a relatively relaxed atmosphere, and we noticed a few large family groups mixing and matching courses so it can't have been too stuffy. The food was amazing. The bruschetta was really fresh and tasty and all pasta dishes were well received. The pumpkin lasagne was probably the highlight. For mains we ordered chicken (delicious) and meatballs (which were practically illuminous and looked incredibly scary, but apparently were very nice), and managed, just, to finish every last morsel.
At around 170 euros for three courses for four people with wine and mineral water, we thought it was well worth it.

Eine freundliche und volle Bar und Restaurant im Zentrum von San Gimignano. Ein anständiges und ziemlich kurzes Menü, wahrscheinlich etwas teurer als andere, aber preislich angemessen, da einige der anderen deutlichen touristischen Restaurants in der Umgebung höhere Preise haben. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet, wenn auch ein wenig salzig, aber wen kümmert das, was die Ärzte sagen, nicht wahr? Wir saßen auf der Terrasse und es war wirklich friedlich und schön.

A friendly and busy bar and restaurant in the centre of San Gimignano. A decent and fairly short menu, probably slightly more expensive than some, but appropriately priced, given some of the other more obviously touristy restaurants in the area. The food was excellent, if a little salty, but who cares what the doctors say, eh?

We sat on the terrace and it was really peaceful and beautiful.

Un cordiale e frequentato bar e ristorante nel centro di San Gimignano. Un decoroso e abbastanza corto menu, probabilmente un pò costoso, ma con prezzi adeguati, confrontato con i prezzi di altri ristoranti in zona. Cibo eccellente forse un pò salato ma che importa cosa dice il dottore? Ci siamo seduti sul terrazzo ed era tranquillo e bellissimo.
