What should have been a nice dinner for four turned into a culinary upset that we hope to never repeat.

We were four very hungry people that went for dinner at 615p on Thursday 28May. Our waitress took our drink orders, we let her know we wanted the carvery and proceeded to where the food was. Our choices were Gammon, Turkey, Stuffed pork and Beef. I did not like seeing balls of stuffing on the side of one of the meat stations; I felt those should have been in a container instead of out in the open. The Broccoli container had broccoli that was yellow, yellow broccoli is a good sign that it is old and should have never been used. When one of the people in our party mentioned this to an employee he said, “Just dig underneath for the green ones”. I found the other vegetables to be overcooked and too soft and the gravy to be salty. By the time I arrived back at my table the Gammon already was looking a dark red because it was very dry. I assumed this was an all you can eat carvery, there were no signs anywhere saying it wasn’t, the waitress who took our drink order never told us this and it does not state this on the menu. Because I assumed this was an all you can eat carvery I did not pile the food on my plate like I saw other customers doing. Instead, I had a few slices of the gammon and beef which was quite nice, a few veggies and Yorkshire pudding. After I finished, I went back to try the pork and turkey only to be turned away by the gentleman carver who said “no seconds”. Had I known this I would have topped my plate up like everyone else did but since I wasn’t aware of this and no where does it state this I didn’t. We called the manager over to discuss the state of the yellow broccoli, the dry gammon and the fact that no where does it state no seconds. Her reply was “I’ll talk to the kitchen staff about the broccoli” and would not allow me to go back for seconds. She did state that I was welcome to return to the veggie station as often as I wanted but only one pass at the meat station was allowed and this was stated in the menu; we did check the menu it did not state this.

We paid 30+pounds for the four of us and left with the feeling that nobody really cared about the mediocre service we received. I’m afraid Moby Dicks loss of our return business is another Carvery’s gain.

pooped I have been to loads of carveries and have never known one where you can just keep going up again and again to fill up your plate, that is just greedy.
