The Exhibition Rooms - Crystal Palace

69-71 Westow Hill, Crystal Palace, London SE19 1TX

26-10-2009

Quiet on a Sunday evening but the atmosphere was welcoming and service attentive. The food is very good and well presented. The menu is based on french hearty cooking with quality ingrediants.
The cocktail bar downstairs has a more modern feel to it but it was quiet so didn't stay long.
The garden area is surrounded by ventilation pipes and noisy extractor fans so wouldn't recommend this part. Overall a very good experience.

Botley Hill Farmhouse - Warlingham

Limpsfield Road, Warlingham, Surrey CR6 9QH

21-09-2009

Great setting for a country pub within reach of south London or Croydon. Views over the hills and valley from the large back garden. Children's play area in the back. Old style interior with low beams and little nooks and crannies. Food nothing to write home about. They have live music here as well in the evening but we didn't stay to listen.

The Hop Shop - Sevenoaks

Castle Farm Shoreham, Sevenoaks, Kent TN14 7UB

21-09-2009

Great place for organic and locally produced food. The beef is sourced from the cows you see outside in the meadow and their are fields of lavender across the valley. They have pyo apples in the local orchard as well.

Chi - Crystal Palace

14 Westow Hill, Crystal Palace, London SE19 1RX

Mixed review as we have eaten in the restaurant before and the service, food and modern setting was very good.
However this weekend we had a takeaway and the food tasted stodgey and very plain.
Maybe they have a different chef for the takeways.

South London Decorators Merchants - West Norwood

really helpful. much better than B&Q down the road.

The Yorkshire Grey - Fitzrovia

46 Langham Street, Marylebone, London W1W 7AX

Being a Sam Smith’s pub it’s cheap, but there’s a reason for that. Their own brand spirits and beers are not the best. It takes an age to get served on a Friday night and they have a curious policy of not letting people stand in front of the pub, but shunting them all down an adjacent alleyway.

Heal's - Bloomsbury

196 Tottenham Ct Road, Bloomsbury, London W1T 7LQ

21-08-2008

Try out the Heal’s cafe/restaurant on the 1st floor called 'Meal’s’. Not a great pun name but the afternoon tea is great. Feels like you’ve gone back to the 1940’s. Choice of lots of different types of tea and little dainty sandwiches, scone with cream and jam and a selection of two pastries. All brought to you on a little silver stand. May seem a little steep at £9.50 but it’s so much food that you could share one between two. Service a little slow, but it feels like an old fashioned style refuge from the hectic and noisy bustle of modern London life. Good place to take your aunty if she’s up to London on a day trip.

Three Horseshoes Inn - Reigate

Ironsbottom Sidlow, Reigate, Surrey RH2 8PT

21-07-2008

Good sunday roast with all the trimmings. The piece-de-resistance being the giant Yorkshire puds. Service for the food was excellent. Traditional if a little dated decor, gives the place a homely feel. Back garden is good for the summer and they have kids games and colouring to keep the youngsters occupied.

The Market Porter - Southwark

9 Stoney Street, Southwark, London SE1 9AA

14-07-2008

Here on a Saturday afternoon and evening. There’s a real buzz round the Borough Market area and people are happily drinking inside and out without being too packed. Got nice, old style wooden floors, beams and little alcoves which looks traditional and original. The range of beers and real ales is impressive. The wheat beer is certainly better than the ropey wine that I tried.

King And Queen - Fitzrovia

1 Foley Street, Fitzrovia, London W1W 6DL

04-07-2008

Proper old style boozer. Has a real buzz on Thursday and Friday when all the local workers spill out onto the street. Comments about the smell are spot on, but this and Colin the (Al Murray type) landlord add to it being a real pub. Makes a change from identikit All Bar One/Fine Line chain bars.
