Mercado would without doubt win the prize for Stoke Newington’s most gaudy restaurant exterior. That said it makes this cantina hard to miss. The mexican menu is equally vibrant; we were drawn in by the 3 course set menu for £20. Approved selections include the chicken in mango sauce and the Sea bass. After the substantial starters some of the less endurant members of our party found the mains hard to finish, so it may be better to go for the flexibility of the full menu.
However, staff were happy to provide a doggy bag and went into impromptu fiesta mode as soon as it was discovered we had a birthday girl in our midst - think chocolate cake and crazy hat brigade, and not just for the birthday girl…
Fairly quiet the night we attended, but I can imagine it has a good buzz on a saturday night. For the more adventurous there’s an authentic, if a little strange, crossbreed beverage somewhere between a beer and a bloody mary, called a Michelado (not to everyone’s taste!).
Not much wrong with this place. Double thumbs up!

Croatia abounds with natural beauty, and this park is no exception. Prepare yourself for a wonderful relaxing day and do not forget to take your camera; the waterfalls are not to be missed. The entrance fee is expensive; 80kn (about £8.50) per person, though I think this drops in the off season. It’s certainly worth visiting if you are staying in Sibenik, Trogir or even Split. There’s additional excursions to the franciscan monastery on an island and boat trips, but these all come at a premium too. I’d bring a packed lunch, there are restaurants and cafes around, but this way you can pick your view. Oh, and there is a spot where you can do a bit of bathing, so don’t forget the swimming cozzie!

I’m a sports bar kinda man. Why? It combines two of my favourite hobbies; watching (not partaking in note) sport and partaking in (not watching note) the drink. Attending the qype birthday quiz last night required thinking as well as drinking, so I had to forgo the sport.
First impressions were good. The green exterior and neon sign gave the air a joint with a bit of money spent on it. However, I think the the neon sign must have tipped it over budget, as the interior was a bit of a let down - somehow it felt like an old school classroom. Maybe catching it on on a private party night doesn’t do it justice - but having three draught lines out before it had even kicked off was a bit poor .
Some nice leftfield thinking has gone into naming The Offside bar (did you see what I did there?!!) - its just a shame they haven’t spent a little more thought on content…

Trogir

A truly fairy tale dalmatian town, Trogir is a warren of polished cobbled alleys and sun bleached stone. Recognised by Unesco as a world heritage site, this could be nowhere else than the mediterranean coast. Old towers, churches and a museum are enough to keep the cultured occupied for a while, as this, like the rest of Croatia, is steeped in history.
An island town with a population of around 10 000 sandwiched between the larger Ciovo island riviera and the mainland, you’re likely to see as many tourists as residents. Unfortunately, as tourism is the towns primary income, it’s reflected in the number of souvenir shops and restaurants with identikit menus. Nevertheless, a breathtaking veneer

If you dislike your friends to the extent I do mine, tell them to meet you at the The Blue Posts in/near Soho. Given that there are three pubs in close proximity of this name you have at least a 66.6 recurring % of not bumping into them.
Fortune however, favours the brave, and at the second attempt we managed to coordinate our gathering and duly descended upon the cheapest extremity of this unholy triangle.
Frankly, I was disgusted at having to pay £2.10 for a pint of crisp refreshing Alpine lager, and after a long and studious perusal of the bar list was able to isolate the bottled organic cherry lager for imbibication at a racy £3.67 a bottle. Unlike Fruli, you can drink this bad boy all night long - well until the woefully early closing time at least.
I prefer upstairs, which has its own bar and chesterfields - and given that this pub is owned by Samuel Smiths, most drinks are priced at the student union end of things - handy stuff if you’re credit crunching in central london .
If you do want your friends to meet you at the first attempt tell them it is opposite the Royal mail depot and the graffito proclaiming 'One nation under CCTV’
