Luca's Bakery on Lordship Lane
Oh dear. Oh deary me. Luca's is Lordship Lane's great "might have been". The bakery products are great( but the same could be said about half a dozen other places within a few hundred metres), it is rather expensive( ditto), but the thing that lets the place down, without fail, every time I've ever been in here in the last few years is the ill tempered service. Perhaps I'm being picked on; perhaps I'm just unlucky. What I'm definitely not is a customer returning in the future.

Archetypal Victorian pub; refurbished front bar, unreconstructed Victorian pub at back. Good selection of beers but no food except crisps etc. and the occasional BBQ; friendly , frequently antipodean, staff. Two big and one small screen make this popular with sports fans on a Saturday afternoon. Ample seating outdoors as well.

This place is a real gem; no nonsense Turkish food to eat in or takeaway. Truely some of the best Turkish food I've had outside Turkey; for takeaway, the lamb shish with "rice" ( actually bulgar wheat) is stellar. If you're eating in, consider the quail if it's still on the menu. You won't leave here hungry, but rather with the warm glow of Anatolian soul food inside you.

More of a restaurant with a bar than a pub serving food, this is nonetheless a pleasant place to stop for a drink. The food has a good reputation among locals, and is noteworthy for the presence of game when in season, which a lot of places are not brave ( or skilful) enough to pull off. Can get busy, and is not the cheapest pub on Lordship lane - £25 for a jug of Pimms is a bit steep.

Superb selection of teas, in chi-chi surroundings - a good selection of delicious cakes to go with it too. The savoury food should not be overlooked either; breakfasts are hearty and well done, the lunch menu includes a range of sandwiches and cafe whatnots as well as ribeye steaks (cooked to order - if you want it properly rare, that's what you'll get), and a small but perfectly formed menu for the evening, along with a respectable wine list. When the weather's in your favour, you can sit streetside, too. Apparently all the light fittings are are for sale, too - hence the name ( not joking).

One of two very good eating pubs along this stretch of road; the food is good, the beer well kept, and on a balmy summer's evening you can comfortably sit outside. I have heard people say they've had the occasional duff meal here, but on the half dozen or so occasions I've eaten at the Palmerston, I've not encountered this. Incidentally, as a bit of trivia, apparently much of the planning for The Great Train Robbery was done here.
