Ortega - Farringdon
55 Charterhouse Street, London EC1M 6HA

Fairly lacklustre tapas place, offering a standard range of tapas choices in faux-Spanish surroundings . Think La Tasca without the crowds. If you must have tapas, consider Moro, not a million miles away.

Large pub, convenient for the church behind it ( where bits of Four Weedings and a Funeral were filmed, apparently). Bizarrely seems to shut occasionally on a Saturday; presumably this si to do with the absence of the office crowd.

Notable for two things - the range of milkshakes, and the honking great , very greasy burgers. A bit of a laugh, but fine dining it is not.

Very popular, buzzing ( in the week anyway) branch of this Italian chain. Pleasing take on any number of Italian traddy dishes, with a deli inside offering a selection of goodies to take away. Not the finest dining experience to be had in this part of town, but is that why you'd come to a chain ? Good for workday lunches and , as you'd hope, does good coffees too.

Lovely restaurant-with-bar ( rather than pub with restaurant) located in a thatched cottage, at the centre of a very pretty village, offering modern European cooking with a local flavour. I'd highly recommend the smoked prawns as a starter - gorgeous !
Has been favourably written up in a range of guides, including The Good Food Guide, Michelin Guide, Time Out etc. Apparently a favourite of Delia Smith's who is friends with the owners. Cookery courses are also run from here, and rumour has it they have started doing their excellent Sunday brunches again.
The Bildeston Crown - Bildeston

Relatively recently refurbished and increasingly popular; becoming a real favourite with locals "in the know". Generally very professional staff ( they accomodated a part of twelve in a lovely beamed back room, including young children, with no fuss, and none of the we've-forgotten-about-you service you'd often encounter), although service at the bar was a bit haphazard ( although it was a Sunday afternoon, so probably best not harp on).
Very well presented food; flavours tend to be fairly tame, but undoubtedly a crowd pleaser.
maison bleue - Bury St. Edmunds

Gorgeous , seafood orientated sister restaurant to the Great House in Lavenham. Service is highly professional, fish is very fresh, and overall standards very high. I'd highly recommend the fruits de mer.
London City airport - London
Royal Docks, London E16 2PB
14-09-2010
A basic, pared back airport - no room for much more on this site. Reasonable range of regional destinations, check in and security generally somewhat quicker than at other UK airports. On the minus side, it is a long schlep from major rail terminals and central London ( although convenient for East London and Canary Wharf).
Heathrow Express - Paddington
812A Uxbridge Road, Hayes Middlesex, London UB4 0RS

Bizarrely time-consuming when travelling from Heathrow into Paddington; very expensive ( as noted by other reviewers), and not always either quiet or with spare seats at peak times. I'd suggest that, in the event your onward travel takes you into central London or another rail terminus, consider taking the tube instead, as Paddington is not the easiest station to travel on from.
Cellini - Cambridge

Lovely family-run jewellers, with knowledgeable and helpful staff , who have a wealth of experience, and take a rightful pride in their products. There are cheaper jewellers in Cambridge, but there are none better.
