Dunelm Mill Shop - Wellingborough
Unit 6 London Road, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire NN8 2DP

The best things about this place for me are that they have a huge range of pillows with one of each hung up for you to squeeze and try and a big range of fabrics including oilcloth in different patterns. Also what has to be the biggest range of covered cushions I've ever seen and the cheapest microfibre cloths. If you haven't discovered microfibre cloths yet, get down there.
They even have a small craft section and, last time I went in, a comedy sign advertising "stationary" bless them. Good shop though and always well worth a visit.

Limited range but handy to pop into if you happen to want something they have. We wanted vermiculite and compost for cactii but couldn't find either.
They are not the cheapest but they do have some nice ranges of certain items. I was particularly taken with their range of cabinet knobs. I wasn't looking to buy cabinet knobs but when I do, I shall know where to go.
They have a fairly large pet section which, for me, they could lose and use the space for something else as pets are well taken care of elsewhere in the area.
Seasonal items were a bit scattered around the store and not very easy to find.
Not the biggest, not the cheapest, but worth a look if you like to shop around or can't be bothered to drive to B&Q.
Waitrose - Rushden

Shopping here is just bliss. Whenever I go there are always plenty of spaces in the car park, plenty of trollies by the door and they're never out of stock of anything. They have a beautiful toiletries section which I could spend all day browsing. The restaurant is lovely and there are always plenty of tables. The shelves are always neat and tidy and everything is lined up neatly. It's never packed and you can get round the aisles easily but the best thing for me is the lack of screaming kids which seem to be mandatory at other supermarkets. Shopping here is a pleasure rather than a chore and everything is just so tempting.
Driving Success - Rushden
11 Gravely Street, Rushden, Northamptonshire NN10 9XH

I chose this driving school based on the web site which was informative and, unlike some I have seen, had no glaring spelling or gramatical errors, hinting a degree of intelligence which is always a plus point in a driving instructor.
The instructor's name is Colin and, at time of writing, the car is a diesel Vauxhall Corsa which was very nice to drive.
I had a short course of refresher lessons as I had not driven for over ten years and needed to brush up my driving skills and get back my confidence begind the wheel. Colin was patient, informative and very calm. I would recommend him to anyone and particularly to nervous drivers. With his help I was able to face the terrors of the roads and am now looking forward to driving again.
Peter Crisp - Rushden
7 High Street, Rushden, Northamptonshire NN10 9YT

Quick update - sadly, after 50 years of service to the People of Rushden, Peter Crisp is closing. The closing down sale starts 18/11/09.
Ed's Easy Diner - Soho

The food is overpriced and unappetising and you can't get a drink unless you order food too which is a shame because I only go in there for the milkshakes. The malted butterscotch is the best thing in the world. Literally.
If you don't mind paying a ridiculous price for food you won't like in order to get the best milkshake in the world (it really is, none of your lumps of ice cream with crystals of ice in it) then it's worth a visit but if you actually want a meal you'll enjoy too, avoid the place.
Wimpy - Rushden
14c High Street, Rushden, Northamptonshire NN10 0PR

I'm afraid we go in here far too often. Much nicer than McDonalds and the staff at this branch are friendly and always helpful. There are always plenty of seats and the place is always clean. The only complaint I have is the speaker in the corner constantly playing Radio 1, which just doesn't match the customer demographic, they're mostly the Radio 2 type. Personally I'd rather have a local radio station like they do in the Ryde Wimpy.
Actually I do have another complaint, they have recently removed the menus from the tables and you have to wait for the waitress to bring you one. Then when you've finished they will bring you the dessert menu but sometimes I just want to have a coffee and a piece of cake. I wish they'd just put the menus back on the table.
But it's still a nice place and we still go in there every week.
Northlands Veterinary Hospital - Kettering
2 Northampton Road, Kettering, Northamptonshire NN15 7JU

I phoned the Kettering branch for some prices for cat neutering, chipping, vaccinations etc. Very nice man on the phone gave me lots of information and is obviuosly enthusiastic about his work, which makes a nice change.
Then visited the Rushden branch to register and book an appointment. The lady there was lovely, Winnie. Really made us feel welcome. I wish they were as nice at the human doctors.
The prices are reasonable and the service is second to none. I would certainly recomend them to others. They also have an emergency out of hours service.
a_gardner A different Winnie to the one I had the pleasure of meeting, must of been someone else wearing her badge !

Puckpool Park Tea Gardens - Bembridge
Bembridge, Seaview, Bembridge, Isle of Wight PO35 5UN
16-10-2009
Has been a lifesaver for us in the evenings for somewhere to get a light meal. Not many places to eat in Seaview and the staff were always helpful even when they were about to close. The seating inside is a bit depressing but two nice outside areas to choose from and a small shop with pocket money type toys for the kids. Quite a varied menu considering it's a park tea rooms.
Flamingo Park Wildlife Encounter - Seaview
Springvale, Seaview, Isle of Wight PO34 5AP

If you like feeding ducks, geese and even swans by hand, this is the place for you. Lots of free roaming birds all hungry for the food which you can buy very reasonably from the ticket office or the shop. They also have all sorts of other birds, meerkats, wallabies, penguins, ferrets, rabbits and goats. They used to have beavers but they sadly went on to the great dam in the sky.
Don't miss the tropical house where you can sit and watch some really pretty exotic birds flying and walking around.
Nice cafe and a large gift shop, also a picnic area for you to eat your own food.
