    Pizza Express Restaurants

Paid this place a visit Saturday evening after not being for a while. Expected good things as the service was impeccable on previous occasions. This has always been a fave spot of mine but this visit seriously disappointed.

We waited over 10 minutes to be seated even after booking a table. The staff just blatantly ignored us until they had finished chatting to each other. I’d booked a table for 6 but we were shown to a table for five so my nephew had to fetch another chair and set of cutlery as the hostess had already disappeared.

10 minutes later my brother had to ask for menus as none seemed forthcoming. I could understand if the restaurant was busy but it was empty bar a couple of tables.

Without giving us time to order drinks the waitress then disappeared again….shocking. Other staff were floating around but also seemed intent on ignoring us.

After eventually getting served, placing our orders we waited patiently for our meal to be served.

As always the food there is exceptional, which is how this place warrants any stars at all from me.

I decided against leaving a tip as our service was appalling and will hesitate on revisiting. If it had not been for these money off vouchers I would have only given it one star.

Due to having my young nephews with me I hesitated complaining but tempted to write a stinking letter

Situated on the former site of Le Monde, we only popped in as a Tasca nearby was closed. You can only enter one way via the host and till where you pay for your meal before being seated as it’s an all you can eat buffet Pan Asian restaurant. £6.50 each for lunch.

We weren’t too sure about this but were quickly seated in what turned out to be a very busy lunch period. The waitress took our drinks order which were payable on arrival unless you set up a tab. We only ordered 2 pints of oj and lemonade and that came to £5.20 which wasn’t that overly priced for a restaurant. Then we went up to peruse the hostess carts to see what was on offer.

Wow….weren’t we pleasantly surprised. 3 or 4 carts filled with delectable delights ranging from the usual Chinese food fayre and some new surprising dishes.

They also have a fresh sushi bar and a fresh cook area where you get to have a chef cook you a dish from some fresh ingredients displayed.

We managed to sample 4 plates each of savouries and were then directed to the sweets carts and ice cream counter.

2 hours later, full tummies and happy faces we left with plans to return.

    Thumbs up all round.

It only loses a star for the too prompt plate snatch process lol

ps always a good sign to see tables of the local Asian community feasting too

I had booked well in advance to secure a nice central 4 star hotel. Were given a bargain price for superior rooms with breakfast inclusive. Although we arrived early a couple of the rooms were ready so we all stored our bags there. Room size was quite disappointing and I had a view over the hotel restaurant, not window view but it was clean, warm and comfortable.

The hotel served bar food but also had a restaurant. We opted for lunchtime the bar and although we had a longish wait the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Drinks were a tad expensive, £5 for a Magners and £4.50 for a bottle of Peroni.

At 2pm a couple of the rooms were not ready but the hotel gave my friends free upgrades to suites that had lovely views.

It was a great location for us, just a 5 min walk to Waterloo Stn, IWM and the Southbank.

On the evening the bar stays open until the last guest leaves which is great and room service is not extortionate either.

Queues for breakfast were quite long but I suppose it all depended on what time you go down. Their was a huge assortment and all you could eat. The food was great quality, hot and plentiful.

My only gripe was the time it took for the lifts to arrive. Some people were waiting up to 15 minutes. Luckily me and my room companion had a 1st floor room so we could take the stairs.

We all expected to be treated like royalty for the price we were charged for our set menu (party sizes of 8 or more £80 a head, not incl service charge or alcohol) and we were greatly disappointed.

We were seated at the far end of the restaurant, which isn’t overly big and were presented with a wine book the size of a small encyclopaedia. Prices were not that extortionate for the house red so we opted for that and were not disappointed.

We all ended up opting for the steak but the chef was obviously not sure what rare meant as all arrived medium to well done….very disappointing but luckily a good cut of beef.

Service wasn’t as fast as we expected after being told they needed the table back by 9:30pm. The only exceptional service was from the sommelier who obviously knew his job.

The meal was the most expensive I’ve had but not the best (Michael Caines rocks).

We had to catch someone’s eye to request the bill. She proceeded to roll her eyes at us even though we were trying to be helpful. They never asked if we wished to pay the service charge, just automatically took if off a card even though we said we had cash for it.

Disappointment all round, we did have words with the restaurant manager and they waived the service charge…..he knew the girl in question and tried to fob us off that she was knew. Just not good enough.

One and only visit from us all.

Had lunch here with some girlfriends and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve walked through Surrey Street endless times but always skirted this place as it looks quite skanky from the outside. It’s a Bath ales pub and also serves pretty good bar food which includes Pieminister pies. We sat in the comfy booths downstairs, were served by a really friendly barman and had good comfort food which included a delicious lamb curry (with onion rings lol) and cottage pie topped with cheesy mash.

Would like to visit on an evening. It looks quite small but they appeared to have a room upstairs as a party emerged halfway through our meal.

Good find, especially if you fancy somewhere friendly before going to Cabot Circus aka Town :0)

I do love this bar/restaurant. Sometimes places that offer meal discounts let their food standards drop but not here. The kitchen is an open grill area so you get to meet and see the chefs which is a bonus in my opinion.

They’ve recently updated the menu but still retain my old faves like the fish fingers and skinny chips.

I ate the sea bass on a bed of fennel accompanied with a warm salad of potatoes and butternut squash. This was exceptional and the skin just the right crispiness. My fellow dining companion opted for the lamb cutlets and we both showed our appreciation by having empty plates.

Service is quick and not rushed. The waiting staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients which is often unheard of.

We were both tempted by the desserts and I opted for a somewhat disappointing rhubarb and apple crumble (not enough crumble) but at least the custard was of homemade quality. My friend opted for the brownies with ice cream and cream.

My only gripe is they forgot to take off the BOGOF voucher but this was soon remedied. I’d advise to book a table if dining on a weekend evening as it got packed pretty quickly.

We then met our friends in the bar area where there was standing room only. The comfy chairs get occupied really quickly. It can get quite noisy and over populated with the student crowd especially in summer/spring when they takeover the outside patio area.

One of the better central establishments and highly recommended.

Had to wait 30 minutes for a table which wasn’t bad seeing as we hadn’t pre-booked so we waited at the friendly bar area.

Extensive menu with the option to order a set range of dishes or singular. Two of us opted for the chefs selection, £25.95 for 2 but with 8 dishes, whilst the others opted for singular dishes…..duh!!! But they were new to the restaurant.

Took a star off because we waited over 30 minutes before our dishes arrived, the waiter was very apologetic though.

When the dishes arrived the two of us who ordered the chefs selection were open mouthed. We could never manage to eat it all but luckily the other girls liked their dished and were adventurous to try some of ours so I think we only had a chicken skewer left and some salad.

It was rather dark compared to my local La Tasca and the toilets were right at the bottom of the restaurant down a winding staircase. Somewhat confusing as they were called services lol

Had a lovely time, we all left with full tummies so happy to recommend but book in advance on a weekend.

We were looking for a venue to have a pre-theatre meal in the theatre district and my friend came up with this after a few Google searches.

We were all a bit wary as when we arrived we were the only second set of diners in the restaurant. Location was fab as it was just 2 minutes away from the Lyceum and many other theatres. Our train was delayed so we were running late but when we rang the restaurant they were really fine about it.

The host took our coats when we entered and gave us a large table by the window. They were more than happy to allow us to have a jug of tap water for the table and a couple of us ordered wine from the not overly expensive wine list.

We ordered off the set menu

£13.50 for 2 courses and coffee
£16.50 for 3 courses and coffee
Available for lunch & pre or post theatre

Couldn’t believe how reasonable the prices were which made us a bit wary but as soon as we were eating our starters any reservations we had were silenced. Friends had the pea and broad bean risotto which was exceptional, rich and creamy with the perfect consistency. Two had the soup of the day which was tomato and I opted for the feta salad which was lovely and they didn’t scrimp on the feta.

Main courses, my friends ordered the minute steaks with fries (which were served in huge bowls) whilst I opted for chicken in a red wine jus with basmati rice. Sides are extra so be warned, we added some French beans to our order, one side enough for 3 people. I could have had a bit more jus with my main but the portions were ample and the food, although simple, was delicious.

Only 2 of us could fit in desserts, my friend opted for the brownie with crème fraiche and I went for the chocolate mousse which was enough for 4 of us to share. Ultimate pleasure for any woman.

Outstanding service, great food and prices. Would highly recommend and just to let you know, the restaurant was packed by 1pm.

Discretionary service was standard 15% but we were more than happy to pay.

Spent the day in London, so en route home leaving from Paddington I was pleased to find the store open, although stocks were very diminished.

Upset that the single glazed rings were sold out but they had boxes of 12, one only of the chocolate selection which I tried to rugby tackle a gent and his other half for I’m ashamed to say.

Being the better person, I let him have it (the box of doughnuts…..not a fist fight). I then purchased a box of 12 sugar glazed rings for £7.45….well worth it.

Waited patiently for the train to pull out before me and my mates dove in. Seconds of orgasmic sounds from 4 girls coming from 1st class. A bemused train conductor. They taste absolutely heavenly.

I have 4 left which I promised to my nephews…....they may accidentally have fallen on the floor by lunch time.

Pretty much standard as any other McDonalds. We went at lunch so the place was packed with children from the nearby schools.

Service was quick and the areas were clean. They should put paper towels in the toilet areas as I’m not keen on fan dryers, especially with young children who find them quite frightening.

One annoyance was being touted a charity keyring but one of the cleaning staff. Didn’t believe that was all above board even though they were keyrings for the restaurants charity.
