Thomsons Bar - Edinburgh
182 Morrison Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 8EB

Thomsons Bar is a great pub if your looking for a no thrills place that serves good selection of real ale. The staff are friendly and are always happy to give you a sample whilst choosing which beer yours going to have. Thomsons is definitely my ideas of a good pub.
Cloisters Public House - Edinburgh

Cloisters is certainly one of my favourite pub in Edinburgh. There is normally about eight real ales available and they are kept to a high standard. One of my favourite features about Cloisters is that the only noise comes from the customers conversations. I also love the white washed walls and the old mirrors. This a pub that I could spend many hours in.
Fat Cat - Norwich
49 West End Street, Norwich, Norfolk NR2 4NA
25-04-2010
I visited the Fat Cat last week on a visit to Norwich, all I can say is that it's one of the best Real Ale pubs that I've ever visited. It must be like a mini beer festival every night with about 30 Real Ales on offer.
If you like Real Ale it a must visit if your in Norwich.
The Dogs - Edinburgh
110 Hanover Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 1DR

Nice restaurant with a quirky menu, a good atmosphere and helpful staff. I can understand why it gets rave reviews, however I found the food a little rich for my liking but I'm not going to knock the place for that.
Its certainly worth a visit.
Falko Konditormeister - Edinburgh

I was really looking forward to my viist having spent a number of years living in Germany and being a big fan of Kaffee & Kuchen
The cakes are nice but at extremely inflated prices, I just could believe that I was charged £13.90 for two cups of black coffees and two slices cake.
I've paid less for flights to Germany so I think thats where I'll be eating my Kaffee and Kuchen in the future.
The Smoke Stack - Edinburgh
53 Broughton Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3RJ

Every group of friends that I've taken to the Smoke Stack rave about the place, it doesn't look muck from the outside and it doesn't look much from the inside, but the steaks are amongst the best I've ever tasted.
Wally Dug - Edinburgh
32 Northumberland Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 6LS
01-03-2010
Popped into the Wally Dug one Sunday lunch time after it had been reccommeded by a friend, I just about got to the bar but turned around and retreated as there was an overpowering smell of cleaning products. After noting that here was no real ale on the premised I decided to look elsewhere.
WallyDug Thanks for the comments. We have since made changes so that the bar floor is mopped with bleach the night before so smell has gone by morn. Always 3 real ale casks on these days. Currently Brewdog Trashy Blonde, St Andrews Ale and Greene King IPA. Would be great to see you back in- first pint on me.

Hectors - Edinburgh
47-49 Deanhaugh St, Edinburgh, Scotland EH4 1LR
01-03-2010
Hectors was a nice surprise, I ususally go to the Stockbridge Tap if I'm in the area but I was out with some friends and Hectors was the agreed meeeting place. Its a nice relaxed bar which is reasonably priced and was great for a couple of pre dinner drinks.
The Albanach - Edinburgh
197 High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1PE

A bit of a tourist trap on the Royal Mile, the last time I was in I was fleeced for over £8 for two drink, a pint and a single spirt with a mixer. As far as I'm concerned its over priced for what's on offer.
The Basement - Edinburgh
10A-12A Broughton Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3RJ

Busy bar/restaurant at the top of Broughton Street, I've only been a couple of times and found the food to be great value for money. On each occasion I've been I stuggled to find a table so it must be popular with lots of other people too.
