I went to Goleen national school.
There were two classrooms, one of which had a big roaring fire (or so I perceived it then) and the other classroom for older children was a fridge! There was a lot of poverty around in those days and the lady teacher would boil a kettle on the fire and supply tea and bread and jam to those who came to school without breakfast. She was a wonderful, kind, lady who I will never forget.
That’s about it. I was a lousy student and often got the cane (from the other teacher of course).
