Cafe Aroma - Cardiff

126 Crwys Road, Cardiff, Wales CF24 4NR

21-12-2011

I had high expectations for this cosy cafe but I was dissappointed. Yes, there is a large menu but the quality is not great and it’s not that cheap either. When I ordered a vege breakfast I was told “We have no glamorgan sausages so I’ll top it up with onion rings ok?” Well that’s not ok is it, as if I didn’t care what I was eating as long as I got my quota of food! So I went for a spinach and feta omelette instead. I was pleased that it came with salad and onion rings, he must like them! but I think it’s inexcusable that the spinach was tinned not fresh.
The service was far from friendly. He didn’t have the right change for me and said he would bring it over, he never did, knowing I suppose that I wouldn’t ask for 15p. But I thought that was rude and offhand.
The ketchup is not Heinz.

Cats Whiskers Hair Salon - Cardiff

214 Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff, Wales CF5 1GX

29-11-2011

Brilliant place, many of my friend’s have their hair done here. Last month they did my bridesmaid hair and that of the bride. It looked fantastic and lasted all day -which is saying something of fine hair like mine. The girl’s were not pushy or dictatorial but went with what we wanted and that which was best for each of our different types of hair. Recommended.

The Richard Cobden - Worthing

2 Cobden Road, Worthing, West Sussex BN11 4BD

28-11-2011

This place has to have 5 stars because I had such a brilliant sunday afternoon/evening there yesterday. We intended on doing a Worthing pub crawl but didn’t think we could better the relaxed atmosphere in here or the Summer Lightening so we stayed all night. This place deserves it’s spot in The good Beer guide with four well kept ales spanning the colour spectrum from golden to mild, and the inclusion of everything that is traditional about the British pub. The bar staff were efficient and friendly, it was quite busy mid afternoon but I was still served quickly. This is a small place with no food and no frills but with loyal punters, many of whome spoke to us and said how much they loved the place! I wish I lived nearby as there is an exciting callender of events including choirs and morris dancing. And it’s well within walking distance of the station and dogs are allowed.

Gardeners Arms - Sompting

West Street, Sompting, Lancing, West Sussex BN15 0AR

28-11-2011

I took my parents and grandma here for sunday lunch yesterday, the food was enjoyed by everyone. The roast is fantastic value at £6.95 for a choice of beef, pork, lamb or chicken. Other options include gammon, scampi, salmon and two vegetarian choices. I ate the veg lasagne, chips and salad and was stuffed.
This pub is in the good beer guide, and rightly so with four or five handpumps. We all drank St Austel’s Trelawny -a new one on me.
Very friendly and accomodating staff.
Booking recommended.

The Hop Poles - Brighton

13 Middle Street, Brighton BN1 1AL

28-11-2011

A thriving pub with very personable staff, the place has few pretentions and a wide cross section of customers. Lots of real ale to choose from, including bottles from The Kernal microbrewery, and should therefore be part of any good Brighton ale trail.

La Lupa Ristorante Pizzeria - Cardiff

155 Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff, Wales CF11 9AH

02-12-2010

One of tastiest Italians I have ever eaten in, as a vegeatrian whose not overly keen on pasta I usually opt for a Pizza, except in La Lupa where the pasta is delicious. A good sized portion which doesn't leave you feeling stuffed and full of cream! This is a friendly resturant with a good balance between casual and smart. A great place to take your parents or to go on a date. I would definately recommend booking, and as with all Italians they are closed on a sunday.

Indo Cymru Restaurant - Cardiff

173 Cowbridge Rd East, Cardiff, Wales CF11 9AH

02-12-2010

We always go here, the staff are lovely and the food is good quality, good value and reliable. It's not posh, just your standard UK Indian but very tasty. Most of the time there's no need to book and only really gets bursting on match days, they do do delivery and best of all are open until 2am on the weekends!

The Globe - Nottingham

152 London Road, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG2 3BQ

25-11-2010

Good selection of real ales, packed out ith Notts County supporters when we were there so hard to give a fair review. Beer was good though.

rabaiottis - Penarth

the esplanade, Penarth, Wales CF64 3AU

25-11-2010

Sadly this long established family run cafe closed down earlier this year and is being demoloished, along with the entire block of buildings on Penarth front. A great shame, here's a pic of it taken in March 2010 as rememberance.

WELLINGTONS - Cardiff

42 The Hayes, Cardiff, Wales CF10 1AJ

25-11-2010

The Wellington has had a refurb and it's now quite a classy pub. One of the things that makes it so is that it has NO TELEVISION, which is unusual for Cardiff, a city in which everyone want to be able to watch the rugby. This is great and makes the atmosphere friendly and relaxed. The ales are well kept and present a choice of guest ales as well as the full range of Brains. It's not cheap any more, just what you would expect from a city centre pub. Recommended.
