We stayed here for two nights for the beginning of our trip around Sri Lanka and will divide this up in a couple of groups.
Rooms
Pros - Spacious (or our room was anyway) and good shower. Our room had a nice balcony.
Cons - a bit dated (and I don't mean in a Colonial type of way). The rooms on the "newer" side need a real update!!!!Restaurant at Hotel
Pro - very good food. Even though it's a buffet type thing, the food was varied and tasty
Cons - noneRestaurant on the Beach
Pro - good fresh food, great location for a night time dinner literally on the beach
Con - slow service and erratic. Some orders were late to come, some forgotten. Although we did have a rather large group so they may have been overwhelmed.
Overall, I'd say 3 out of 5Pool
GreatBeach
You have to make sure you know about this, the hotel has its own private beach and I preferred this to the pool. The hotel was quite busy but most people opted to stay by the pool - maybe they didn't know about the beach. There is also a bar out on the beach. Service for drinks were slow (they serve you at your table) but very friendly.
And if you feel like a little adventure, there's a small nightclub bar that is not part of the hotel but only about a 10 minute walk. This is a local spot but if you don't want to feel confined to the hotel and want to soak up some culture, check it out. Friendly and very busy late at night (goes quite late).

Don't remember a lot about flying into the airport and customs etc (it was a nine hour flight) but here is my review for checking in and flying back to the UK...
it was chaotic. As soon as you get to the airport, and I mean as soon as you walk in the front doors, there is the first security where you have to have all your bags scanned. as you can imagine, this causes back up outside where it's really hot.
then once through there, you have to go to your check in desk, then through customs and then through another security. ugh.
once inside international departures there are not a lot of restaurants. and if you're buying duty free, it's best to have either US dollars, UK pounds or Euros. they won't even take the Sri Lankan money!!!!! Go figure.
